In this learning session, the participants should be able to:
A. Identify the figurative language being used in prose and poetry.
B. Give examples of figures of speech.
C. Apply the uses of the figures of speech used in making an original piece of poetry or prose.
D. Identify figurative languages that show comparison and exaggeration (simile, metaphor,
personification, hyperbole)

What Love is
My love for you is pure like a fist in the jaw
neck turning, sweat droplets fly glittering
through a strobe of camera flashes as the foot
slips, knees buckling under body crashing to
the canvas, groggy eyes unfocusing, I'm fallen
and I can't get up, ladies and gentlemen,
the new heavyweight champion
of love.
My love for you is a policy decision
made at the highest levels of the organization
and strictly enforced all the way down the chain
to the lowliest members of the rank and file
who grumble at the strict enforcement
of this love I have

The following are the four most prevalent forms of figures of speech:
1. Metaphor
- a comparison of two dissimilar entities that share some attribute.
EXAMPLES:

2. Simile
- a comparison of two dissimilar items that have certain characteristics, yet it uses terms like and as.
EXAMPLES:
He operates like a machine.
Her hair is as dark as the color of the night.
3. Personification
- imbuing an animal, object, or notion with human characteristics.
EXAMPLES:
The birds have begun to sing.
The sun greeted us with a warm grin.
4. Hyperbole
- is an exaggerated claim.
EXAMPLES:
I'm so thirsty that I could drink a barrel of water.
I've searched everywhere for you.

Determine if the phrases include figures of speech such as simile, metaphor, hyperbole, or
personification.
