BOTANY PRACTICAL NOTES
MATERIAL ‘A’ (6 marks)
1. Dicot stem: Reasons
The given material is a Stem because,
i)Vascular bundles are conjoint & collateral
ii)Xylem is endarch
Dicot stem because
i)Vascular bundles are limited in number and
are arranged in the form of a broken ring.
ii) Vascular bundles are open
iii) Large central pith present
2. Monocot Stem: Reasons
The given material is a Stem because,
i)Vascular bundles are conjoint & collateral
ii)Xylem is endarch
Monocot stem because
i)Vascular bundles are numerous and are found
scattered in the ground tissue.
Ii) Vascular bundles are closed.
Iii) Pith absent
2. Monocot Root: Reasons
Root because
i)Vascular tissues are radialyarranged.
ii )Xylem exarch
Monocot root because
i) Xylem and Phloem are numerous in number
(Polyarch).
ii) Xylem vessels are round in cross section
iii) Large central pith present.
MATERIAL ‘B’ (1 mark)
Microscopic
1. Oscillatoria: Filamentous blue green algae
2. Spirogyra : It is a filamentous, fresh water, green algae with ribbon shaped chloroplast.
3. Rhizopus : Spores are produced in sporangia.
Macroscopic
4. Sargassum : It is a marine brown algae with air bladder and receptacle
5. Pinus Female cone: It is the female reproductive structure of Pinus plant that produce
ovules and megaspores.
6. Pinus Male cone: Male cone is smaller than female cone. It consist of microsporophylls.
MATERIAL ‘C’ (1 mark)
1. Bt cotton: It is a transgenic insect resistant plant
2. Cloning vector: They are the carriers used to introduce a foreign gene into host
3. Bioreactor: It is a large vessel used to produce specific biotechnological products.
MATERIAL ‘D’ (1 mark)
1) Metaphase: chromosomes are arranged at the equator of the cell
2) Anaphase: Chromatids moved to opposite poles.
MATERIAL ‘E’ (1 ½ marks)
1. Hydrilla Experiment
Aim:- To demonstrate evolution of oxygen during photosynthesis.
2. Study of plant pigments using paper chromatography
Aim: To separate photosynthetic pigments by
unidirectional paper chromatography
MATERIAL ‘F’ (1 ½ marks)
Solanaceae
1. Calyx- 5 sepals, United (Gamosepalous), Persistent, Valvate aestivation/
2. Corolla – 5 petals, United (Gamopetalous), Valvate aestivation/
3. Gynoecium – Bicarpellary (2 Carpels) Syncarpous, Ovary superior (Hypogynous), Axile
Placentation, Bilocular
MATERIAL ‘G’ (Ecological interaction) ( 2 marks)
1. Mutualism (Lichen): In this association both species are benefited. Algal component is
phycobiont and fungal component is mycobiont
2. Parasitism (Loranthus) : Interaction between host and parasite. Parasite is benefited and host
is harmed
3. Commensalism (Epiphyte) : In this interaction orchid is beneficial while host is not harmed.
