INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME MODULE
Arbitration & Conciliation Centre, Bengaluru (Domestic and
International) is an initiative of Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka.
It is dedicated to facilitate both Domestic and International
Arbitration. It undertakes both voluntary and Court annexed
Arbitration process. Hon’ble Former Judges of Supreme Court,
High Court of Karnataka and other High Courts, former Judges of
District Judiciary render their invaluable services as Hon’ble
Arbitrator in the Centre.
Hon’ble Board of Governors vide Meeting Resolution dated
18.06.2019 permitted the director to allow the law students to
visit the centre and observe the proceedings for a day. Further
vide Meeting Resolution dated 10.02.2020 it was resolved to place
the request for internship before Hon’ble President for permission
and director was authorised to issue internship completion
certificate. As per Meeting Resolution dated 25.11.2021 it was
directed to obtain undertaking from the students that they shall
maintain confidentiality of the proceedings. At present, many Law
college students have been seeking for internship with the Centre
and it is felt necessary to formulate a standard procedure to be
followed. Accordingly, the following Internship Programme Module
is formulated:

I. GENERAL PARTICULARS:
A. Purpose:
The Arbitration & Conciliation Centre proposes to organise the
Internship Programme with a purpose to well acquaint Law
College students with the workings and arbitration process
conducted in the Centre, from filing to drawing up of Award.
B. Eligibility:
Students who are currently enrolled in full time LLB or LLM
programme at any law school recognised by the Bar Council of
India can apply for the internship.
II. INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME AT THE CENTRE
A. Maximum Number of Students:
The maximum number of interns allowed in one internship
cycle at the Centre is Eight or such other additional number of
interns as approved by the Hon’ble President.
B. Types of Internship:
The Students may opt for any of the three types of internship, viz.,
(i) Long term Internship (21 Days’ programme);
(ii) Short term Internship (One day programme); and
C. Selection:
Selection of interns will be on first come first serve basis, subject
to the availability of slot and approval of the President of the
Centre, as the case may be. Any communication regarding
selection will be sent to the intern student through the official

D. General Conditions for Internship:
I. The Centre reserves its right to select the number of interns
and to revise the programme guidelines as and when it is
found necessary.
II. No TA/DA or remuneration of whatever kind shall be paid
by the Centre to the intern. The interns shall arrange
themselves for their own stay or transport during the
internship programme.
III. The intern shall maintain utmost discipline and decorum
during the visit to the Centre in general and before the
Tribunal proceedings in particular.
IV. The students shall wear their Uniform and compulsorily
carry the ID card issued by the College during their
Internship in the Centre.
V. The Intern shall follow confidentiality protocol of the
Centre and shall not reveal to any person or organization
confidential information relating to its work and policies in
compliance of Section 42A of the Arbitration and
Conciliation Act, 1996.
VI. The Intern shall abide by the Arbitration & Conciliation
Centre Rules, 2012 and other regulations which are in
general applicable to staff of the Centre.
E. Certificate of Internship:
A Certificate of Internship will be issued by the Centre on the
satisfactory completion of long Term Internship only.
(Explanation: Satisfactory completion requires atleast 95%
attendance during the tenure of internship period).

F. PROCEDURE TO APPLY FOR INTERNSHIP- TYPES:
I. LONG TERM INTERNSHIP OR 21 DAYS’ PROGRAMME:
a. The interested student must send his/her curriculum vitae,
bonafide certificate (as per Annexure-I) issued by the
College/University and Undertaking (as per Annexure-II)
along with a covering letter addressed to the Director,
Arbitration & Conciliation Centre, III Floor, East Wing,
“Khanija Bhavan”, Race Course Road, Bengaluru – 560 001
or send an email to the arbkarblr@[Link], atleast one
month prior to the intended date of internship.
b. Long term Internship programme will be for a minimum
period of 21 working days, but not exceeding one month.
c. Hon’ble President of the Centre, subject to furnishing all
particulars, will authorise the Long Term or Twenty One
Days Internship Programme.
d. The Centre reserves right to restrict or revise the number of
days of internship.
e. This is a full-time internship and to be attended physically,
unless directed otherwise. The intern is not expected to
pursue any other course/work during the tenure of
Internship.
f. The Internship is neither an employment nor an
assurance of an employment with the Centre.
g. The office hours for interns will be all working days from
10:30 am to 5:00 pm. Students with alternate or different
timings owing to classes or any other commitments must
inform the Directorate and obtain their prior approval.

h. The intern shall maintain a day to day record in the
internship dairy in such form as may be stipulated by their
College/University.
i. Intern would be required to attend the assignment given by
the Director/Deputy Directors of the Centre and to enter the
said work in their daily diary and the same would be signed
by the officer of Directorate.
j. In the event of unsatisfactory performance or not adhering to
the norms of this Module, the Director is at liberty to
discontinue the Internship, in consultation with the Hon’ble
President of the Centre.
k. In case the intern decides to discontinue the Internship,
prior intimation should be given to the Director.
II. SHORT TERM INTERNSHIP OR ONE DAY VISIT
PROGRAMME:
a. The Principal/Dean of the institutions must send a
communication addressed to the Director, Arbitration &
Conciliation Centre, Bengaluru, by furnishing the details of
the number of students (not exceeding 10 in one batch)
intending to intern and the proposed date of the visit.
b. The Director of the Centre, with the approval of Hon’ble
President, is empowered to permit One Day visit Programme
at the Centre, subject to the students issuing joint
undertaking as per Annexure-III.
c. In case of One Day visit Programme, the intending student
will not be permitted to continue the programme for more
than one day.

III. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISION :
Generally, the advocates appearing in the case before the
Arbitral Tribunal would bring their intern students to watch the
case proceedings. Although, it is not an internship with the
Centre in the strict sense, but the following procedure is to be
followed:
a. The concerned advocate bringing the intern shall
compulsorily obtain prior permission of the Director in
writing before the commencement of arbitral proceeding.
Provided, the number of students accompanying shall not
exceed 02 in number.
b. The students shall compulsorily carry the ID card issued by
the College.
c. The students shall furnish an undertaking as per Annexure
– IV (either jointly or individually) to maintain confidentiality
as per Section 42(A) of the Arbitration & Conciliation Act,
1996.
d. The advocate with whom the student is attached shall
ensure that he/she follows proper discipline and decorum in
the Centre.
e. Such students are not entitled for issuance of internship
certificate by the Centre.
