Setting Google API key in Wcadi
Description
Wcadi uses Google Maps for displaying maps and satellite imagery and for getting elevation data.
A Google Cloud account and API key are required in order to use these capabilities.
This document explains the steps for setting it up.
Setting up a Google Cloud account
If you already have a Google Cloud account then you may use it and skip to the next section.
1. Go to [Link]
2. Sign in using a valid Google account. Note the “Sign in” at the top right side. If you don’t have a
Google account you may create one.
3. Press the “Get Started” button in order to set a Google Cloud account
4. If no account has been set yet you will need to create a billing account. Press that option if
prompted:
5. Complete the account details accept the term and conditions and perform account verification.
6. Complete the billing information. Note: under normal usage, Wcadi uses limited resource so that
monthly billing will be close to 0. In addition, a new Google Cloud account is entitled to free usage
quota for the first few months
Enabling relevant APIs
1. If presented with the welcome key select the Maps option to enable the required APIs:
Alternatively: Go to the menu on top left, select “APIs & services” and select “Library”.
You will get to a screen where you can select different APIs:
2. From the Maps section select and enable the following APIs:
Maps JavaScript API
Maps Elevation API
Maps Static API
3. After enabling these API verify that they are enabled. Go to the menu on top left, select “APIs &
services” and select “Dashboard”.
You will get to a dashboard screen where usage statistics for the various APIs are displayed. Verify that
the enabled APIs are listed there:
Getting an API key
1. Go to the menu on top left, select “APIs & services” and select “Credentials”.
You will get to the credentials screen.
2. Select “Create Credential” and then “API Key”
An API Key will be created and presented. Copy the API Key and close the popup window
You will note that the newly created API Key is listed in the Credentials screen. You may want to edit
it and change its name to “Wcadi” for future reference
Use the API Key in Wcadi
Make sure you have a project opened.
Starting version WCADI2021 1.1.3
Go to 9Configuration->Google Maps API key and enter the API key
Before version 1.1.3
Go to the drivers folder under the Wcadi installation.
Edit the [Link] file and paste the API Key into it.
Save the file.
