Chapter Three

This research employs both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, utilizing primary data from 30 randomly selected individuals engaged in tourism in Paje village, and secondary data from various documented sources. The study analyzes the relationship between tourism and GDP using OLS techniques and employs questionnaires and interviews as data collection instruments. The random sampling method was chosen to ensure representativeness and minimize bias in the sample.

CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHADOLOGY

3.0 STUDY DESIGN

This study based on the Qualitative and Quantitative approach which includes both primary
and secondary data. The data set was analysed to answer the research questions and
hypothesis.

Secondary data based on collecting overall data about tourism in Zanzibar at the various
sectors which are already documented. The source of these data was Library, ZIPA, ZCT,
MKUZA, Zanzibar Office Statistic and other reliable sources such as internet.

Primary data was the most used in analysation of this research, it collected from different
farmers and people who are engaged in tourism at that rural area (Paje’s village).

3.1 SAMPLE SIZE

This research has used the random sampling because each members of the population has
equal probability of being selected for inclusion in the sample. The subjects were randomly
drawn from Paje village to the population who are engaged in tourism, at most of 30 farmers
and people who are engaged in tourism were selected from that village.

The table bellow shows the total Samples which are randomly selected from sampling by
figures in different tourism sectors which are operated at Paje Village.

Random sampling is reasonable to be used here because it is used to maximize the sample’s
representative by eliminating bias. There is no other alternative than to use random
sampling, because it is cheap and simple to use as well as useful due to population is neither
big nor scatter.

3.2 PROCEDURE

The E-View was used to analyse the quantitative data so as to measure the relationship
between the dependent and independent variables of the research model. On the other hand
charts and graph also were applied by using SPSS and E-View programs.

The development of the survey instrument for this study was followed the procedures
recommended by Churchill (1979) for developing a standardize survey instrument.

3.3 INSTRUMENT

The instruments that were used in conducting this research were questionnaires and
interviews.

An interview was used for those farmers and people who are seen difficult to use
questionnaires as the mode in collecting data.

3.4 ESTIMATION TECHNIQUE

Using OLS techniques, the coefficient of the variables in regression model were
estimated. For the study estimates with OLS the function of GDP with respect to percentage
growth of tourism has to be transformed in to model to satisfy the Classical Linear
Regression Model (CLRM). So that comes up with the usual assumption of Best Linear
Unbiased Estimate (BLUE).
