Unit 2 Assignment

Student Name: Joy Kinyua

Course: Bachelor’s in Computer Science
Date: September 2025

Part 1: Essay Outline

Essay Topic: Does technology have a positive or negative influence on education?

Introduction
I chose this topic because education is at the core of my career and personal journey.
Technology has transformed the way we learn, both positively and negatively. In this
essay, I will argue that technology has largely had a positive influence on education,
while also acknowledging the challenges it creates.

Enhanced Access & Equity

- Technology provides global access to resources and learning opportunities.
- Support with article: “Technology enhances the learning experience for students by
providing them with the tools and resources necessary to succeed” (Writers of UoPeople,
2024, para. 1).
- This shows that digital tools remove barriers of location, cost, and limited physical
resources.

Personalized Learning & Engagement

- Technology allows learners to study at their own pace using interactive modules,
recorded lectures, and adaptive systems.
- Personal example: I have benefited from being able to replay lessons or use online tools
when I did not fully understand a topic in class.
- Such flexibility motivates students to stay engaged and take charge of their learning.

Drawbacks & Solutions

- Technology can create challenges such as distractions, unequal device access, and
overreliance on screens.
- To overcome this, schools and learners should combine digital tools with traditional
teaching, provide offline access, and encourage responsible use of devices.
Conclusion
In conclusion, technology’s impact on education is mostly positive because it expands
access and supports personalized learning. The drawbacks can be managed with planning
and balanced strategies. Technology, therefore, remains a vital tool for building inclusive
and effective education in the modern world.

Part 2: Reflection
It is important to give credit to the article's author because they created the ideas and
evidence I used to strengthen my essay. Proper citation respects intellectual property and
allows readers to find the source and verify its credibility.

The most common types of academic dishonesty are plagiarism (using someone else’s
work without proper citation), cheating on exams, falsifying information, and submitting
work that is not one’s own.

I did use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to assist in this assignment, specifically in
generating ideas, structuring the outline, and polishing grammar. To maintain academic
integrity, I included proper citations from credible sources, reviewed the AI suggestions
critically, and made sure the final work reflected my own understanding. While AI is
useful for brainstorming and clarity, it cannot replace my own thinking and
accountability as a student.

Part 3: Instructor Feedback

From the Unit 1 Assignment Activity, I received feedback that guided me on how to
improve clarity and ensure correct formatting. I found the feedback helpful because it
highlighted small mistakes I would not have noticed, such as citation details and sentence
structure. It also reassured me that I am on the right track, which motivated me to put
more effort into this Unit 2 assignment.
