C. Presentation/Lesson Proper

The activity we have done earlier is in connection with our topic

this morning. It is all about Persuasive Writing.

This time let us define what is PERSUASION. Do you have any

idea? Good idea! Thank you for that response.

❖ PERSUASION is a technique that is used to present

ideas in order to influence the audience or to convince
them to perform a
certain action.

This time let’s connect persuasion to writing,

❖ PERSUASIVE TEXT is any text which main purpose is to
convince, motivate, and move readers towards a
certain point of view or opinion. - Persuasion is to
In this we are trying to convince someone through writing, so persuade others to
with this we are going to discuss PERSUASIVE WRITING believe something
TECHNIQUE.

Same with other essay, persuasive essay has also three (3) main parts:

Format in writing persuasive essay is Introduction + 3

Body/Reason + Conclusion (I+ 3BR + C)

Intoduction:
Body (Reason 1):
Body (Reason 2):
Body (Reason 3):
Conclusion:

Here is a sample of a Persuasive Essay:

✓ Is anybody here engage in smoking?
✓ Why do you think we should not smoke?

The highlighted statement is a catchy hook which uses words

from the bible and may direct readers attention.

The second statement is a short information about smoking which

gives readers idea about the issue.

The third one is the thesis statement that shows the writer’s
stands towards the issue.

Let us now proceed to the body:

In the thesis statement under introduction, the writer stated the reasons

- Answers may vary

- It is not good for our
body and it may
cause illness.

why you shouldn’t smoke. Here in the body we are going to give
the details for the reasons given.

Kindly read the first reason, Zedrick!

Thank you!

In this the first reason was given and backed up with evidence why

- smoking badly affect our health. The same also with the following

- paragraphs.

In

the example how many paragraphs are in the body?

Why? You are listening and observing well, you are

awesome!

The last part is the conclusion:

In this part, the writer restates the thesis statement.

- You shouldn’t smoke

because it can badly
affect your health.

Lastly, the writer provides a call to action and a closing

statement. Is the example clear?

Did you understand it?

So, when you went home try to persuade your father or brothers
who are smoking to stop it because it has nothing to do good
in their bodies.

In persuasive writing, we should consider Aristotle’s Three (3)

Persuasive Appeal.

- We have three (3)
paragraphs under the
body because the writer
identified three reasons.

Let’s take a look this example,

I
f you’re going to choose between the two, what would
you choose?

This is an example of persuasive appeal which is the PATHOS.

❖ PATHOS is a persuasive strategy that plays on audience
or readers’ emotions to influence the acceptance of
your argument.
Example:
“There’s no price that can be placed on peace of mind.
Our advanced security systems will protect the well-
being of your family so that you can sleep soundly at - Yes Ma’am
night. - Yes Ma’am

What are the words in the given example that influence emotions?
- Yes Ma’am, we will
try to persuade them.

This time let’s move on to the second appeal. Take this example:

This is an example of persuasive appeal which is the LOGOS.

❖ LOGOS is a way of persuading an audience with
reason using facts and figures.
Example:
Filipino Independent films have gained millions in the
present year and are continually gaining more due to
the influence of new media and millennial-related
issues.

Lastly is the third appeal. Take a look with this example:

- Menu B

If the speaker is famous and well-known, will you attend?

This is an example of persuasive appeal which is the ETHOS. - No price

❖ ETHOS is a persuasive strategy used to convince an - Peace of mind
audience based on the author’s credibility or - Protect well-being of
character. your family
Example: - Sleep soundly
“My three decades of experience in public service, my
tireless commitment to the people of this community,

and my willingness to reach across the aisle and

make me the ideal candidate as your mayor.”
- Answers may vary

These three persuasive appeals are necessary to consider

in writing your persuasive essay to make your writing
effective.

Application:

Divide the class into three (3) groups. Each group will be given
task to perform using the persuasive writing technique. Be
ready to present it in class. You will be given ten (10) minutes
for this activity.

Group 1: ADVERTISE ME! You are asked to promote products or

services you wanted to sell. Create short and punchy phrases
that help make brands more memorable for customers.

Group 2: PERSUADE ME PLEASE: Imagine your team is running

for the SSG Election, how will you persuade the audience to
vote in favor of your team.

Group 3: SING IT: Compose a song with lyrics that summarize

the important points we have discussed.

Generalization:
Based on our discussion this morning what have you
learned Bella? What is persuasive writing?
That’s a nice answer, Bella! - Yes ma’am, I will.

How about you, Viel? What are Aristotle’s Modes of

Persuasion? Very good, thank you Viel!

IV: EVALUATION
Persuasive writing states and supports an opinion. Based on
the given statements choose only one issue, write your own
persuasive text using the structure (I+3BR+C).

1. Due to unfavorable weather condition and high heat

index which may considerably affect the conduct of
classroom learning and put the learners’ health and
wellbeing at risk. The school decided to shorten the
classes into half-day and modular in the afternoon for
learner’s welfare. However, many are proposing to
revert the schedule of the school break to the months of
April and May, like before the pandemic struck. What do
you think? Support your opinion with persuasive writing.
2. Many people believe that we should learn how to be
contented with what God has given us. Therefore, we
should never undergo any surgical procedures. What
is your stand?
3. Some people think recesses in school should be longer.
They believe kids might learn better if they had a longer
break in the middle of the day. However, the extra class
time after recess would make the school day longer.
Therefore, kids would get out of school later in the day.
What do you think?
