Alice Curious, “Everything here feels upside down. One

brave; trying to the path bends itself just to confuse me. And
make sense of yet… I can’t help wanting to see what’s around
a world that the next corner. Everyone keeps telling me who
keeps shifting I should be — a pawn, a queen, a child, a

feet. I only want one thing: to understand where I am,
and how to keep my head clear in a world
where nothing stays still. If becoming a queen
means learning to stay calm when everything is
impossible, then perhaps I am braver than I
thought.”
Red Queen Commanding, “Rule number one: everything must be done
sharp, properly. Rule number two: everything must be
impatient; done quickly. And rule number three: if anyone
obsessed with questions rule one or two, they are clearly not

if you wish to be a queen, you must learn to
obey the rules before you learn to break them.
Now stand up straight, look determined, and for
goodness’ sake stop drifting away while I’m
talking!”
White Queen Scatterbrained, “Oh dear, I’m so sorry — I’m very good at

White Knight Gentle, loyal, “Ah! You must be careful travelling through this
imaginative square — very dangerous territory. But fear not,
inventor; heroic for I am here to protect you. I’ve invented
in a bumbling, several clever devices for emergencies. This

though it does tend to trip him uphill… The truth
is, Alice, being a knight isn’t about battles or
bravery. It’s about trying. Even when you fall off
your horse — especially when you fall off your
horse — you get back on again. And you help
others keep going, too.”
Red Knight Bold, boastful, “Stand back! This girl is my prisoner — or
competitive; opponent — or… well, something important, I’m
sees himself as certain. A knight must always appear confident,

shift, but a knight never admits confusion! Alice,
prepare yourself. Whether I’m rescuing you or
capturing you, it shall be done with the dignity of
a true warrior!”
Tweedledee Childlike, “You’re quite mistaken, you know. Entirely
argumentative; mistaken. But that’s all right — it gives us
mischievous something to correct! Things don’t make sense

when properly commanded. Now, if I seem a bit
unstable, I assure you it is only because the
world is full of clumsy people who do not
appreciate how delicate brilliance can be.”
White King Nervous, fussy, “Good gracious me! I’ve misplaced my crown
anxious; again — or perhaps it misplaced me. Impossible
