Chapter 6
Next day at lunch hours she crossed her finger and skipped office to visit her own place. She started
to walk at a steady pace. This was her first ever trip to the residential colony in that posh area. There
were grand parks and wide roads. She took turn and saw a white BMW convertible. She was almost
drooling for the car and just then the door open. Someone was steeping out of the car. She thought
she should turn her gaze in a different direction and then she noticed the shoes. It was exotic leather
loafers in tan shade with tassels. The shoes were definitely worth the stare. She started feeling the
heat and decided to move ahead. She walking slowly but her head turned to see the person coming
out of the car. He was tall and muscular. She could see his well-built biceps. She got so lost in that
she didn’t realised she is walking in the middle of road. Suddenly she bumped into a car and fell.
She stayed on the ground for a while trying to recollect herself. She felt a hand on her shoulder
trying to lift her up. She could smell the cologne and it was melting. The grip was strong yet gentle.
She got up and saw the guy. He was even hotter. She almost skipped a heartbeat. He took the bag
from road and gave it to her. She shakily thanked him and asked him the address. He started
explaining it but she was lost in her own thoughts. He asked at the end if she understood. She
embarrassedly nodded and went ahead.
She finally reached the flat, took out the keys from the bag and opened it. The flat was very big for a
single person to live in. It had all the modern amenities and a huge balcony. She went to the balcony
and looked outside and she could see the cool things in the neighbourhood. The place was good but
the view was priceless.
Sonia was eagerly looking forward to live at her own flat. She informed everybody that she will
move out to her new place very soon. As soon as she announced the location of her new place there
were many eyebrows raised. No one was willing to believe the story that she can get such a dirt
cheap deal by accident. There was a lot of gossip but nothing bothered her. She was all excited for
her new journey. She gradually started shifting her stuff to the new place. The apartment was
unfurnished so buying stuff for home was her favourite pass time.
Though she was shifting her stuff but somewhere deep down she was still not able to gather the
courage to finally move out. One fine Sunday she got up very late and the moment she opened door
of her bedroom there were loud noises. There was a lot of frenzy as everyone was preparing to go
for a wedding ceremony. She just ignored everything and went to kitchen to make herself breakfast.
Just then she was told to prepare breakfast for everyone. She again ignored it and continued with
her business. She could all sort of non-sense comments for defying. She couldn’t take that any
longer and that was the tipping point.
She started packing bags and was determined to leave the house for good. There were many things
to be done at the apartment but the impulse in her drove her crazy. By evening she rode the cab to
her new life.
Her heart was racing. It was mixed feeling. She had not expected this but there was pain of
separation and off course excitement for new life. An hour later she reached the flat. She put the
bags in a corner and closed the doors. The moment she turned she saw empty walls and absolute
silence. A tears rolled down her eye, at last she got what she had been dreaming since eternity. The
moment was precious and she was sharing with himself. She sat on the floor for a while and was
breathing heavily savouring the moment. There was so much to be done and she had no clue from
where to start. So she did what she could do that best leave everything for tomorrow and savour the
moment. To make it even better she ordered pizza and coke. The day was very long but night
brought its calm and she slept.
Next morning was a new journey. Right from preparing meals to ironing her clothes and fighting
with the cranky maids she has to deal with everything. This was the moment she realised the pain of
freedom. Everything had a cost and it was upto her how much she wants to spend. She started by
honing her cooking skills. Suddenly her mother was the angel in her life.
Sonia was expecting her family would boycott her for this but they had changed for good. Her
mother guided her through the mess. She would plan things in office and head to market in evening.
Though everything was hectic but she was enjoying. The day use to be very hectic but she walk at
night would wipe off everything. She would wake up stronger every day and deal with situations
head on.
Within one week she was almost blended into her space. There was indeed a lot of pain but the
freedom it brought was worth it. She wasn’t wasting time stuck in traffic. The time she was saving,
was very well utilised in doing everything she desired. She would go for walk and not be bothered by
the time to return. There was absolutely no disturbance at home. Sleep was peaceful. She would
wear anything without the fear of being judged. Her favourite thing was to sit in balcony and savour
the view around with a cup of tea.
Though she had no one to accompany her but then she had never explored her own company so she
wasn’t much bothered to look for someone. When she was living with family she has to eat
whatever is made at home or available nearby. Now she had all the time to find exotic ingredients
and try out dishes. She also started re-inventing her wardrobe. Experiment with hair and looks was
very rewarding. At her previous place she almost never got the time to listen to music. Here she
would play all types of music at the loudest possible voice. There was absolutely no one to interrupt.
Whatever she was doing was quite unconventional by society standards and for her own but she
wanted to taste the freedom. Least she knew that a simple desire of having her own interrupted
space can change her life drastically. Her body language exuded unadulterated confidence. She got
the wings and was definitely flying high. It was a time when she enjoying both her professional and
personal life.
Anita started visiting her for weekends and suddenly pyjama parties came to life. Gradually her
friends also started joining. There was no time bar. Parties would generally start late at evening and
go all night.
All the pain and struggles she had been facing over the years were wiped in a few weeks. She was
living a dream and every dream comes to an end.
She will be tested again and this time pain will cross threshold.
