Course: TR323-Traffic Engineering and Management
Task: Last Course Assignment – Total Marks (100%)
Due Date: Tuesday, July 01, 2025 at the beginning of the Class
Instruction: Read through chapter 19-21 of Traffic Engineering Class Book and go through
the sample signal timing problems, then solve the following; Each Question 20 marks
1. Chapter 19, Problem 19-4
2. Chapter 19, Problem 19-5
3. Chapter 20, Problem 20-2
4. Chapter 20, Problem 20-3
5. The time space diagram represents the situation where one direction of a two-way street is
favored, as far as signal progression is concerned. This could be during the AM peak period
where heavy volumes of traffic flow in essential direction. If this movement is favored, the
opposite progression naturally suffers.
a) What is the highest reasonable speed of the progressive band in the opposite
direction? (Show band on the time space diagram).
b) The width of this new progression band is ________ seconds. Efficiency = ____%.
c) What are the signal offsets at each street with Street B as a reference?
Note that: In the book, all traffic movements and calculations refer to U.S. system, use them as
reference to understand the basics in signal timing design. However, in the final exam (UE) we will
use Metric units and Tanzanian traffic movement.
