Eating

In today’s world, there are dramatic changes in the way people eat, resulting in
detrimental health issues including obesity. In this essay, i will discuss reasons
behind this phenomenon, including the lack of dietary knowledge and the
development of mass - produced food along with convenience needed for the
modern lifestyle and give out solutions addressing this.
In the era of fast pace of life, convenience usually takes precedence over
nutrition. Fast food and processed products make everything become much
faster and easier whenever our brains signal starvation. Several supermarket,
convenience stores offer numerous and available processed food with a nice
touch of several spices and additives, making it become the number one option
when meal time comes. Also, a lot of food agencies often have misleading food
advertisements in which they claim their products to be healthy and suitable for
those who are on diets, but those, infact, contains a colossal number of
calories and has no real nutrition. This is one of the main reasons leading to
obesity become the widespread chronic diseases among people.

Although some people are busy that they do not have time to cook for
themselves that they eventually have to opt for fast and unhealthy food like a
quick meat hamburger at KFC to recharge their batteries for work. This,
however, can be the fastest way to be obesed with long hours for sitting in front
of computers and deficiency of workout frequencies.
Another cause has to be mentioned is that food companies heavily market
unhealthy products, often targeting children and vulnerable populations. Their
advertisements are designed with catchy images, coming with free cute gifts
which are favoured by many children, as well as persuasive messages that can
touch somebody’s hearts. This can detrimentally influence food choices of
these groups of people, leading to changes in eating habit such as
overconsumption and consuming of calorie - dense foods.

To address this problem, making healthy food become more accessible and
affordable can encourage people to choose better food options. This can
include subsidizing fruits and vegetables and promote food markets in some
underserved areas. For example: The Los Angeles Fresh Rx Program provides
low - income residents with fruits and veggies, increasing access and
affordability of nutritious products. Also, by targeting farmer’s markets, it
encourages healthier eating habits in underserved regions through introducing
fresh ingredients, which can promote home - cooked meals. Furthermore,
implementing policies to regulate the marketing of unhealthy food, especially to
those mentioned groups of people above, can help reduce their consumption.
Some advertising products need to be restricted or implementation of sugar
and calorie taxes can take place in some high - consumed areas.
In conclusion, the dietary pattern of many people has witnessed several
changes, which can lead to obesity. This is due to two major reasons involving
nutrition illiteracy and the introduction of processed food into the modern
lifestyle. This emphasizes the need for collective efforts from different parties,
especially from agencies, authorities and also citizens themselves, including
decreasing prices for fruits and veggies, targeting potential farmer's markets in
underserved areas and enacting policies to address unhealthy food
advertisments.
