Creating Photo Frames with Straight Lines using Ice Cream Sticks

This hands-on mathematics and art integrated activity allows students to explore
geometric shapes formed by straight lines while creating attractive photo frames
using ice cream sticks. The activity encourages creativity, logical thinking, and
experiential learning.
Materials Required
• Ice cream sticks (coloured or plain)
• Glue / Fevicol
• Printed photograph or drawing
• Sketch pens, crayons, glitter, stickers, or decorative items
Description of the Activity
Students are provided with ice cream sticks and are guided to create photo
frames using straight lines. They begin by arranging the sticks to form a four-
sided frame (square or rectangle). Gradually, they move on to creating frames
with five, six, seven, eight, nine, and even ten sides by adding more sticks.

Once the desired shape is formed, students paste a photograph or drawing inside
the frame. They then decorate their photo frames using colours, stickers, glitter,
or other creative materials. Each completed frame represents a polygon made
using straight lines.
