DETAILS OF SITE

PLACE OF PROJECT :- KAIWARA, CHIKABALLAPUR

DISTANCE FROM BANGALORE :- 65 KM.
NATURE OF PROJECT :- EXTENSIVE SURVEY PROJECT

DISCRIPTION OF SITE:
Location:
The extensive survey project camp was conducted at
“Kaiwara” village in Chinthamani Taluk of Chikkaballapur
District. It is situated at a distance of 65kms from Bangalore. It
is well surrounded by rocky hills. It is situated at the foot of the
Kaiwara betta hill. The village has very good natural valleys and
sceneries. The village has the very famous temple of Sri. Yogi
Narayana Swamy & Sri. Amaranarayana both at the foot of the
hill. The place was very convenient to conduct survey camp as it
provides good facilities for water and accommodation.
The site selected for new-tank project situated at a distance
of 2.25 km from the Temple. The site is quite natural and
possesses good valley portion. Hence it is an ideal site for the
construction of new tank.
Also the project site is very suitable for carrying out survey in
existing Kaiwara village.

SYNOPSIS
The “EXTENSIVE SURVEY PROJECT” was conducted as the part
of syllabus of the pre-final year Civil Engineering degree course
Of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum during the
academic year 2014-15. The project was conducted at Kaiwara,
Chikballapura (D)

The following projects were carried out:-

NEW TANK PROJECT

RESTORATION OF OLD TANK PROJECT

WATER SUPPLY PROJECT

HIGHWAY PROJECT

TOWN/HOUSE/LAYOUT PROJECT

OBJECTIVES:
Keeping in view the requirements for the above projects, the project was
successfully completed by using different surveying methods i.e. plane
table surveying, levelling, compass surveying etc., were successfully
adopted.

India being mainly a country of villages, the socio-economic

development depends on connection through various means of
transportation and communication. One of the most prominent and
traditional modes of transportation is road transportation.
Tanks are life of people even to this day, to meet water demands in many
parts of India.
Water supply is also a very important criterion in human community.

• In NEW TANK PROJECT, the survey was carried out along the
bund line and the heights of the bund, sluice level, MWL, FTL were
fixed. The capacity of the tank was found by the capacity contour. The
longitudinal section and cross sections were plotted. The proposed tank
will help in irrigation, water supply and improving water table in nearby
wells.
In canal survey, surveying is carried out along the field. Levels were
taken at regular intervals and at nearby permanent structures. This
project is expected to serve nearby areas for irrigation as well as for
drinking purposes.

• In RESTORATION OF OLD TANK, the survey was carried

out along the existing bund line. The heights of the bund, sluice level,
MWL and FTL were determined. The capacity of the tank was found by
capacity contours. The proposed tank will help in irrigation, water
supply and improving water table in nearby wells.

• In HIGHWAY PROJECT, a village road was surveyed along the

road length. Levels were taken at regular intervals, longitudinal section
and cross sections were plotted. The curves were designed at points of
change in alignment of the road. The quantity of earthwork was
calculated for both filling and cutting.

• In WATER SUPPLY AND SEWAGE PROJECT, surveying

was carried out along the road length. Levels were taken at regular
intervals and at nearby permanent structures, the population which will
be consuming water from this project was found and future population
was calculated. The dimensions of the water tank were determined. The
Key Map was plotted. This project will help in increasing the living
standards of the people.
• In LAYOUT/HOUSE/TOWN PLANING surveying was
carried out near to the village to develop the respective site in a
manner of building the houses in that respective sight to ensure
the new [Link] layout people were stayed in a standard living
conditions and we provide requirements for the people who
were going to stay in this layout andThis project will help in
controlling the population.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

In view of acquiring a sound knowledge of both theory and practical

situations and also difficulties that would be encountered during field
survey work, an extensive survey project is arranged for civil
engineering student.
Following are the technical aims and abilities:
 To impart training in the use of surveying instruments and to
acquire a comprehensive idea of the project, along with
designs, drawings and estimations.
 To train students in real and difficult situations of project
surveying.
 To develop team spirit in practical situations.
 To impart and develop self confidence in the management of
the project.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE PROJECT

Before designing and construction of a dam, road or any other project, it

requires a thorough investigation of the site, its stability, etc.
The investigation starts with: Reconnaissance work; Proposal of
alternate site, etc.

The second stage of work that is the actual work done includes the
survey work at site. This is done to:
• Calculate and collect the data necessary for the design of the parts
of the project.
• Know the amount of earthwork in cutting and filling.
• Know the profile of the land
