​CIRCUS - THE GREATEST SHOW

Curtains slowly rise as everyone sings the melody while clapping
their hands and stomping their feet on the bleachers.
“The Greatest Show” will begin playing.

“The Greatest Showman” will slowly appear and perform, leaving

the silhouette while the cheers of the crowd can be heard.

The circus ensemble begins to perform, music fades, curtains

come to a close.

2.​MANSION - YOUNG PHINEAS & YOUNG CHARITY

Curtains open to an empty stage with the transition of Adult
Phineas into Young Phineas

Young Phineas stands quietly at center stage.

His father, Philo, enters and grabs Phineas by the arm, pulling
him toward the side of the stage.

Philo: “Let’s go now, quick!”

The scene shifts to Young Charity, holding tea on the other side
of the stage. Young Phineas makes her laugh, causing her to
spill the tea. Her father, Fredric, sees this and becomes angry.

Fredric: “Charity! Is this how we’ve taught you to behave?”

Young Phineas steps forward and stops him.

Young Phineas: “It’s not her fault, I made her laugh.”

Fredric: “How dare you speak back to me!”

Phineas gets slapped by Michelle’s dad.

Fredric: “Stay away from my daughter. If I catch you near

Charity again, you’ll regret it.”

Fredric and Philo will stay in the scene.

The two will leave the scene as the curtains close.
 3.​VINES - A MILLION DREAMS
Curtains close to Young Phineas sitting beside a wall filled
with vines and leaves.
Young Charity sees her and sits on the other side.

Young Charity: “You didn’t have to take the blame for me.”

Young Phineas: “I’d do it again. Seeing you smile, it’s worth

everything.”

He reaches out gently. Their fingers meet.

“A Million Dreams” begins playing.

4.​STREET - A MILLION DREAMS

Their silhouette gradually fades, to be replaced by an adult
version of them.
The two roam the streets together, hand in hand, they glance at
each other, a stare full of love.
They dance alone under the fading light. No one else is around.
Their steps are playful, tender, and full of promises.

“A Million Dreams” begins to play as they dance, swelling with

each step.

He twirls her. She stumbles into his arms. The world pauses.

Phineas: “Marry me.”

She stares at him, breathless. The music resumes, rising with

emotion.

The scene shifts to the rooftop with white linens and continuous
ballroom dancing.

The music slowly fades away. Curtains close.

5.​HOME - NEW BEGINNINGS

The curtains slowly open to Phineas with Charity and their
children.
Charity: “Look at them, Phineas. Playing, laughing… they’re
happy.

Phineas: “I know. But this isn’t the life I promised you.

Charity: “Phineas—”

Phineas: “I’ll make it better. I’ll do everything I can to give

them the life they deserve. I promise.”

Phineas and Charity start smiling. “Come Alive” instrumental

starts playing. Curtains come to a close.

6.​CIRCUS - BARNUM’S FREAK SHOW

The curtains slowly open to Phineas walking with his family.

Charity: “So, why did you get a 10k loan? What did you buy using
it?”

Phineas: “Only the greatest! People will love it!”

Phineas and his family walk up to an abandoned museum.

Phineas: “This! This is what I bought.”

Charity: “Oh? A museum?”

Phineas: “Not just any museum! It’s a place that no one has seen
before! I’m turning it into a place where people can watch the
greatest show ever!”

Charity: “And how exactly will you do that?”

Phineas will remove a cloth covering the “freaks”, frozen in

motion. The music slowly rises.

“Come Alive” slowly builds up while several people are rushing

to get tickets.

The family slowly leaves, leaving only Phineas behind.

Phineas stands tall, radiating confidence, as the crowd buzzes,
eagerly buying tickets. “Come get your tickets now!” he calls,
relentless and commanding. Then, with a sudden, dramatic sweep,
he unveils his extraordinary costume, joined by other freaks,
each more bizarre and dazzling than the last. As they step into
the light, time seems to stop; the chatter dies, jaws drop, and
every eye in the auditorium locks on Phineas, frozen in stunned
silence.

Phineas starts singing “Come Alive” to Lettie. One by one, the

cast members join in with the song, until the entire ensemble
comes together for a full performance of “Come Alive.”

The audience erupts in a mix of cheers and gasps, some in awe of

the talent of the Freaks’, while others are left bewildered.
Petals and trash rain down on the performers, a chaotic blend of
admiration and disdain. Amidst the frenzy, some cry out
“Excellent!” while others jeer, “Fake!” The Freaks take their
bows, embracing the frenzy and madness, showcasing to the world
that they aren’t just simply “Freaks”, but are more than that.

The audience will exit, the ensemble will stay, a mysterious

figure emerges from the crowd.

7.​CIRCUS STAGE - PHINEAS’ PROPOSAL

As the mysterious figure slowly approaches, Phineas notices him
and signals the ensemble to take their exit. The ensemble talks
between themselves before finally taking their leave.
Anne and Philip lock eyes with each other when Philip picks up
her prop and hands it to her.

Anne: “Thank you, and you are?..”

Philip: “The pleasure is mine, the name’s Philip, Philip

Carlyle.”

Phineas: “I’ll take it from here, great show everyone! And to

you, Mr. Carlyle, a pleasure to meet you! I’ve seen your plays
before, so what brings you here?”
Philip: “I was astonished by your extravagant play, and I must
say that people here leave your show happier than when they come
in-which is much more than I can say from my play.”

Phineas: “So come join our circus. You clearly have a flair for
show business-a trained eye and ear of a performer. Teach me how
to appeal to the highbrows.”

8.​CIRCUS - THE OTHER SIDE

The man hesitates for a while, thinking to himself if it is
truly worth the sacrifice.
“The Other Side” can be heard slowly playing in the background.

Philip: “Are you serious, Mr. Barnum? I just can’t leave and run
off to enter a circus. Everything in my life is at stake here.”

Phineas: “Maybe the place that you truly belong is here, and on
the other hand, well, u just might find yourself a free man.”

Phineas suddenly takes hold of Philip, they both go to the other

side of the stage. Followed by the bartender taking the center
stage.
The performance of “The Other Side” begins.

9.​CIRCUS - CARLYLE AND THE FREAKS

After the performance concludes, the two men will run away from
the stage. The curtains close.
The curtains slowly rise to reveal the “Freaks” having a
conversation. Philip and Phineas enter.

All: “Who is that?”

Phineas: WD, Anne, this is my new hire, Mr. Carlyle.”

Lettie: “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Philip: “Yeah, pleasure.”

Charles: “And what good might you bring here to us?”

Philip: “Well, actually, come and see.”

Philip hands them an official letter from the queen herself.
With the letter reading:

Phineas: “The master of the Household, has it in command of the

Queen… To invite Mr. Phineas Barnum and his theatrical troupe to
a reception at Buckingham Palace.”

Lettie: “The Queen Victoria? Is this real?”

Philip: Yeah, I have to pull some strings. If you want society

to accept you, might as well start at the very top!

Anne: Are we all invited?

Philip: “I guess I’ll just have to tell the queen that either
all of us have to go, or none of us will!”

Charles: “The Queen of England. Can’t get much better than

that.”

The curtains close as the “Freaks” look at each other as Philip

turns his eyes to the audience. The scene shifts.

10.​ BUCKINGHAM PALACE - THE SWEDISH NIGHTINGALE

As the “Freaks” gather around the reception hall conversing with
one another, sipping a drink in their champagne, a guard walks
up and introduces the “Swedish Nightingale”

Guard: Your majesty, Jenny Lind.

Jenny walks into the room capturing everyone’s attention.

Phineas: “Who’s that?”

Philip: “Oh that’s none other than Jenny Lind, a famous sing-”

Phineas pushes Philip towards her. The “Freaks” slowly leave the
stage, leaving only the three behind.

Philip: “What are you doing?”

Phineas: “Introduce me to her”

Philip: “What!? But she doesn’t know m-”

Phineas: “A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Jenny. The name’s Phineas,

right here by my side is Philip.”

Jenny: “Of course. You’re the American right? That of, or…
something?”

Phineas: “I’m a showman, just a showman. Miss Lind, let me get

to the point, I would like to bring you to New York. If you
agree… I’ll make you the most famous singer not only in Europe,
but in the entire world!”

Jenny: “Mm. And have you heard me sing?”

Phineas: “Well, no. But I trust your reputation more than my

own.”

Scene shifts to Barnum introducing Jenny at the Opera House,

hand in hand, side by side.
The scene shifts as the “Freaks” and Philip leave the stage.

11.​ OPERA HOUSE - NEVER ENOUGH

Barnum: Let me introduce you. The Swedish Nightingale, Jenny
Lind

The performance of “Never Enough” begins.

As the performance comes to a close, the crowd erupts in cheers
as Phineas and the “Freaks” stare in awe at “The Nightingale”.

Charles: “Lord, what a voice”

Lettie: “I know”

Charles: “Thinks she likes a man in uniform?”

Lettie: “I’m sure she does”

Phineas: “What are you doing here? You’ve got a show in an hour,
OK?”

12.​ STREETS - THIS IS ME

The “Freaks” slowly enter the stage but are stopped by Phineas.
He forces them to back down.

Lettie: “Wait!..”

As the lights slowly dim, Lettie’s faint voice can be heard.

The performance of “This Is Me” begins.

The ensemble marches towards crowds of people who are shocked by

them, with each move carrying strength, identity, and courage.

Curtains close to a still shot of the ensemble looking at the

audience.

13.​ TICKET OFFICE - Anne and Philip

The curtains open to two figures still in place. No movement, no
noise.
The scene slowly unravels as a slow music starts in the
background, accompanied by the two figures moving.

Anne: “Mr. Barnum said he left a ticket for me?”

Ticket seller: “Two right?.”

Anne: “No, there’s only meant to be one.”

Philip: “Wasn’t sure you’d come if I asked.”

Anne: “I’ve always wanted to go to the theatre.”

Philip grabs Anne by her hand and slowly walks, Philip’s parents
suddenly appear.

Philip’s Father: “Philip, is that you?”

Philip: “Mother. Father. This is Anne Wheeler.”

Philip’s Father: “Philip, have you no shame? ...parading around
with...that…”

Anne leaves

Philip: (firmly) Anne. Anne.

Philip: “How dare you speak to her like that?”

Philip’s Mother: “You forget your place, Phillip.”

Philip: “My place? ...I don't wanna be a part of it.”

The curtains slowly cover their figures as tension slowly rises.

14.​ CIRCUS - REWRITE THE STARS

The curtains slowly rise, revealing two figures wrapped in black
cloth—as the music slowly rises, the cloth begins to unravel
their figure.

Phillip: ‘Anne, they’re small minded people. (pause) Why do you

care so much about what they say?”

Anne: “It’s not just them… You never had somebody look at you
the way your parents looked at me. The way everyone would look
at us.”

Anne turns around to leave.

The performance of “Re-Write the Stars” begins.
Anne finally leaves.
The curtains come to a close as the performance dies down.

15.​ BARNUM’S HOUSE - A MILLION DREAMS(REPRISE)

The curtains open to slowly reveal Charity, a hand clutching her
chest, the other holding onto a newspaper containing the
“affair” of her husband.

Charity: “I loved him with all my heart… and now he’s touring
the world with a Swedish singer he just met?! Why can’t he see
the love that’s been right here, however big, however small, let
me be part of it all… Now we’re bankrupt, and what about our
girls?”
The curtains slowly close, with Charity still in the center of
the stage.

16.​ BARNUM’S CIRCUS - THE DOWNFALL

The curtains open to the “Freaks” confronting the rebelling
protesters.

Protester 1: GET OUT OF THIS CITY! WE DON’T WANT FREAKS HERE!

Protester 2: YEAH! YOU FREAKS ARE NOTHING BUT UGLY AND USELESS

All protesters laugh which made Lettie charge at them and punch
one protester causing a whole fight.

The strongman pushes a protester so hard that he gets sent far

away; the protester sees a torch and reaches out for it.

He throws it towards the center causing a massive destruction

and fire; ruining the museum.

Everyone stands frozen, in shock as to what happened.

Phineas arrives and sees the scene, he walks around the circus,
picking up the “ruins” of what was left behind.

Phineas: “I was too greedy… for attention, fame, and for money.
I’ve lost everything I’ve ever loved.”

The “Freaks” approach him, slowly surrounding him.

Lettie: “You didn’t lose us Barnum, we’re family.”

Charles : “And we want our home back.”

Philip: “How can we ever revive this thing?”

Phineas: “We don’t need the tent.”

All freaks will agree, the climax begins.

The final performance of “The Greatest Show” begins.
As Phineas takes the center stage for one final show-stopping
performance, the audience erupts into a frenzy, rushing to claim
their spots in the seats.

Mid-performance, Phineas extends an unexpected invitation as he

pulls Philip onto the stage and passes him his hat.

The crowd goes wild as Phineas joins them, the party slips out
of the theatre, flowing into the quadrangle below.

The music swells as the ensemble comes together for a finale of

music, movement, and magic.

The scene culminates in a playful, picture-perfect “kissing”

moment, Phineas and Charity, Philip and Anne.

As the entire cast freezes, basking in the joy and energy of the
moment.
