Class: Reception Home learning tasks for 4.1.
4.1.21- To kick off our new topic of ‘Toys’ we have thought of some very fun activities
which link in nicely and some that we know you will just love.
Home Creative/Writing task: We know that Santa will have been to visit as you have been such well-behaved boys and girls
Learning and I can only imagine some of the amazing toys you have received. As part of our Topic this half-term we will be
Task 1 learning all about ‘Toys’ so our first fun task for you to complete is to draw and colour in/paint a picture of your
favourite toy/s that you received for Christmas. You could even have a go at labelling your picture or writing a
sentence about it too. I can’t wait to see what you all got from Santa.
Home Maths/Creative activity
Learning Can you design your own robot? Can you cut out different shapes of paper and colour them in? Can you tell you
Task 2 grown-ups which shapes you have used e.g. 3 circle buttons, 5 square buttons and a star shaped nose?
What are the properties of each shape? Can you tell you grown-ups about each shape you have used? E.g. a
square has 4 corners and 4 sides?
Upload a small video of your child describing the shape and their amazing pictures to Tapestry.
Home Phonics activity
Learning Now that we are all super stars with our phonics and have been learning lots of different sounds, we thought it would be
Task 3 nice to refresh our memories by listening to the Jolly Phonics songs on Youtube. The link is here:

Now we have a challenge for you that has 3 levels. See which ones you can complete and we will give Dojo’s to the boys
and girls for their hard work.
Level 1 - Can you write the sound that each picture begins with e.g. c for cat?
Level 2 -Can you write the word?
Level 3 - Can you write a short caption/sentence about the picture? E.g a big cat. The cat had some food.
Please encourage your child to hear the sounds in the word independently and they are meant to write them phonetically
plausible. For example, a child may write ‘some food’ as ‘sum fud’.
See below for the pictures.
*Pictures are: man, van, map, cat, jam and pan.
