Scope of IPR Acts

1. Copyright Act, 1957: Protects original literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic
works, cinematograph films, and sound recordings.
2. Trade Marks Act, 1999: Safeguards distinctive signs, symbols, or
expressions used to identify goods or services of a particular trader.
3. Patents Act, 1970: Protects new inventions that are non-obvious, useful,
and industrially applicable.

4. Designs Act, 2000: Protects the visual design of objects that are not purely
utilitarian, including the shape, configuration, pattern, ornament, or
composition of lines or colors.
5. Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act,
1999: Protects names or signs used on products that correspond to a
specific geographical location or origin.
6. Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Act, 2001: Safeguards
the rights of both plant breeders and farmers in relation to plant variety
protection.
7. Biological Diversity Act, 2002: Protects India's biological resources and
associated knowledge, regulating their access and ensuring fair benefit-
sharing.
