Ramadan Routine

Virtues of Ramadan
The Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬would give glad tidings before Ramadan,
Ramadan approaching is a time to be celebrated and praise Allah (‫ُس ْبَح اَنُه‬
‫ )َوَتَعاَلى‬for.

The doors of Jannah are opened and doors of Jahannam are closed.
The shayateen are chained.
This is the month out of all months where Allah (‫ )ُس ْبَح اَنُه َوَتَعاَلى‬frees the
most people from Jahannam and brings them to Jannah. It’s an opportunity
to reset your life.
In this month there is a night better than 1000 months (Laylatul Qadr)
Whoever is deprived of Ramadan’s benefit is the one truly deprived
because Allah (‫ )ُس ْبَح اَنُه َوَتَعاَلى‬never gives as many opportunities as he does
in Ramadan.

Before Ramadan Starts

Fix Your Intention (Niyyah)
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬taught that intentions are the most important. Even intending
good brings reward. Your intentions should include:
Finish the Qur’an.
Make sincere tawbah (repentance).
Increase dhikr.
Increase charity.
Pray all Taraweeh.
Seek Laylatul Qadr.
Improve your character.
Even if you fall short, you are rewarded for sincere intention.

Ramadan Routine 1
Clean the Heart (Repentance First)
If a cup is dirty, you can’t pour clean water into it.
Before Ramadan:
Stop major sins.
Reduce bad habits.
Make istighfar constantly.
Clear grudges.
Fix relationships.
Even after good deeds, we seek forgiveness. Repentance is tied to every act of
worship.

Plan Everything (Write a Schedule)

Don’t wing Ramadan. Write:
Wake-up time
Qur’an time
How many times you intend to finish the Quran
Work hours
Charity plan and how much you intend to give
Taraweeh plan
Sleep schedule
What you’ll eat and who you will provide iftar for
Lectures you intend to watch and books you intend to read (dont make
these academic fiqh-akham based, make them tarbiyah based so you can
act upon it immediately)
Planning prevents wasting time.

Study:
What breaks the fast

Ramadan Routine 2
Fidya/kafarah
Laylatul Qadr
Zakat al-Fitr
No excuses when knowledge is available on YouTube.

Plan Your Charity

Set a daily sadaqah amount.
Increase it in the last 10 nights.
Plan iftars in advance.
Even giving a date and water earns the reward of that person’s fast.
The best investment is sponsoring iftars in the masjid or even for friends
and family but make it your intention and you get full reward for their fast.

Daily Ramadan Routine

Islamic day begins at Maghrib.

Maghrib (Iftar)
Break fast with dates and water
Make dua (accepted at this time)
Keep food simple and don’t pressure your mother/wife with elaborate
dishes
Avoid heavy oily meals (weakens your ibadah and goes against
zuhd/restraint aspect of ramadan) and dont turn Ramadan into a food
festival.
Before this and iftar especially make most dua
Dua for yourself, parents, family, ummah, oppressed Muslim like in
Palestine and Sudan
This dua is accepted

Ramadan Routine 3
Have good thoughts about Allah (‫)ُس ْبَح اَنُه َوَتَعاَلى‬, fast with Iman and hope of
reward and pray at night with Iman and hope.
A accepted Ramadan wipes away all sins.
Give away any sort of sadaqah you can

Isha (Taraweeh)
Whoever prays with the imam until he finishes, it is written as if he prayed
the whole night. Even if there are two imams stay until start to end.
Praying with the Imam from start to end is preferable to every other ibadah
because this counts as qiyam al layl.
Remember only 29-30 nights of Ibadah
Stay until witr
After taraweeh short rest, light study, family reminder, adkhar
And then do some more qiyam if you wish.

Suhoor & Fajr Routine

Never Miss Suhoor. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said there is blessing in suhoor.
You’ll be physically stronger, more spitually blessed and protected from
exhaustion so you can do more ibadah.
Eat light and balanced, not heavy and oily.
Make intention for
Make sure you spend this time entirely upon istighfar because Allah (‫ُس ْبَح اَنُه‬
‫ )َوَتَعاَلى‬praises those who seek forgiveness before dawn.

Definitely do not sleep through it.

Make dua as this is last third of night and Allah (‫ )ُس ْبَح اَنُه َوَتَعاَلى‬accepts all
duas.
Make dua between adhan and iqamah as dua is always accepted.
Pray Sunnah at home as this is the sunnah
Never miss sujood dua because this is accepted

Ramadan Routine 4
Go to Majsid as early as possible after adhan and raise your hands and
continuing making dua
After fajr stay seated in masjid remembering Allah (‫ )ُس ْبَح اَنُه َوَتَعاَلى‬in adkhar
until sunrise.
Then pray 2 rak’ah Nabi ‫ ﷺ‬said this reward is like a complete Hajj and Umrah
(as mentioned in hadith).
Sleep here or during duha period for a little while but intend that your sleep
is ibadah to renergise you for your ibadah when you awake.
Keep this as a common theme for any non-prescibed action you do, intend
work, sleep, chores, school as an ibadah. Everything becomes ibadah with
intention
Weekly Plan: A structured plan exists to finish the Quran in seven days:
Day 1: Surah Al-Fatihah to Surah Al-Baqarah
Day 2: Surah Aal-Imran to Surah Yunus
Day 3: Surah Hud to Surah An-Nahl
Day 4: Surah Al-Isra to Surah Al-Furqan
Day 5: Surah Ash-Shu'ara to Surah Ya-Sin
Day 6: Surah As-Saffat to Surah Al-Hujurat
Day 7: Surah Qaf to Surah An-Nas
Daily Plan: Aim to complete 10 Juz' per day for a three-day completion.
Breaking it Down: Recite portions of the Quran after each prayer (Fajr,
Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) if reading the entire Juz' at once is
challenging.
Du'a After Quran: After finishing your recitation, make Du'a, asking Allah
for the good of the day, its blessings, victory, and guidance, and
seeking refuge from its evil. Dua found in adkhar Sabah wa masah.
Read Quran until Dhuhr

Duha and Dhuhr and Asr

Take Qaylulah.

Ramadan Routine 5
Intend to finish Quran at least once this Ramadan, Imam Shafi’ did 60 times,
Sahabah did 4 times.
If you finish this study beneficial ilm or do a family reminder time
Through out the day do constant dhikr (SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu
Akbar).
Invest all your dead time like driving on what is beneficial.
Before Dhuhr pray 4 Sunnah.
Between Salah do what is beneficial like study, listen to lectures, read tafsir,
teach your children but make sure they’re tarbiyah based rather than
akham. Things which are actionable straight away Sharh Riyadhus Saliheen
Ibn Uthaymeen and Tafsir Sa’di are both good recommendations. Also
mentioned Seerah Nabawiyyah or deep study of tafsir of juz amma.
Take this month also to check on neighbors, visit relatives, give sadaqah to
family first, invite people for iftar, help someone free their time for worship
(if you have wealth)
Dont hold grudges and forgive as Allah (‫ )ُس ْبَح اَنُه َوَتَعاَلى‬does not look at the
deeds of one who has enmity in their heart.
Give sadaqah at every opportunity

Special Opportunities
Umrah in Ramadan especially in last 10 night = reward like Hajj (as
mentioned in hadith) and in some variations reward like Hajj with the Nabi ‫ﷺ‬
Seek Laylatul Qadr and increase worship in last 10 nights.
AVOID ANYTHING THAT WON’T BE BENEFICIAL TO YOUR AKHIRAH AND
REMEMBER DEATH CAN COME AT ANY TIME AND THIS MAY BE YOUR
LAST RAMADAN.
