Simple Present - Grammar Guide

1. Uses of the Simple Present

• To talk about daily routines: I wake up at 6 a.m.

• To express general facts: The sun rises in the east.

• To describe habits: She drinks coffee every morning.

• To talk about permanent situations: They live in Colombia.

2. Structure

Affirmative: Subject + base verb (add -s or -es for he, she, it). Example: She works every day. Negative:
Subject + do/does + not + base verb. Example: He does not play soccer. Question: Do/Does + subject
+ base verb? Example: Do you like pizza?

3. Spelling Rules for He/She/It

• Most verbs: add -s (play → plays).

• Verbs ending in -ch, -sh, -x, -s, -o: add -es (watch → watches).

• Verbs ending in consonant + y: change y to ies (study → studies).

4. Common Time Expressions

• Every day/week/month/year

• Always

• Usually
