Significance of the Study

In recent years, the need for financial literacy among Senior High School
students has gained increasing attention as many young people begin managing money
on their own. As students approach adulthood, their financial decisions—such as how
they spend and save—play a significant role in shaping their future. With today’s
financial systems becoming more complex and with the growth of digital payments,
credit use, and online shopping, the ability to manage money wisely has become a
highly crucial skill thus making it essential for students to develop responsible spending
habits. This study aims to examine the connection between financial literacy and
spending behaviors, providing insight into how prepared students are to face financial
challenges in today’s fast-moving, consumer-driven world.

This study is significant for students as it provides an opportunity to assess and

strengthen their understanding of money management during a critical stage in life.
Developing financial literacy at the high school level is essential for fostering
responsible financial habits that can positively impact students’ lives beyond graduation.
In addition, educators, school administrators, and policymakers can use the findings to
shape more effective financial education programs, ensuring that students are prepared
to make informed financial decisions. Moreover, the research contributes to the limited
studies about financial behaviors among Filipino students, an area that has not been
widely explored. Overall, the study highlights the importance of giving students the
knowledge and skills they need to make good financial decisions to achieve long-term
financial stability in the future.
