Memory-Types and Interfacing

The document discusses memory interfacing, which involves the microprocessor's ability to read from and write to memory chips by selecting the chip, identifying registers, and enabling buffers. It explains address decoding to generate unique pulses for chip selection and outlines the concept of a memory map that defines the accessible address range. Several examples illustrate interfacing circuits and address range calculations for specific memory types, such as EPROM and 8155.

Basic Concepts in Memory Interfacing

Memory Interfacing means that the Microprocessor is able to read from or/and to write into a given
register of a memory chip. To perform these operations, the microprocessor should be able to

1. Select the Chip.

2. Identify the Registers.
3. Enable the appropriate Buffer to read from or to write into.

Address Decoding

To generate a Unique Pulse (Chip Select/Chip Enable) for a given address so that the Memory
Memory-
Chip can be identified and its whole range of Addresses can be made accessible as per the specified
Hardware.

Memory Map

It is the Range of whole addresses of the Memory through which the memory can be accessed.
