Class 1 Mathematics Notes

Simple Language Study Material


1. Numbers 1 to 100

Numbers help us count things.

We count from 1 to 100.

Example: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

After 10 comes 11, 12, 13 and so on.

Practice writing numbers neatly from 1 to 100.


2. Counting Objects

We count objects like apples, balls, and books.

If there are 3 apples, we write the number 3.

If there are 5 pencils, we write the number 5.

Counting helps us know how many things we have.


3. Before, After and Between

The number before 5 is 4.

The number after 5 is 6.

The number between 4 and 6 is 5.

Practice: What comes before 10? What comes after 20?


4. Greater Than, Less Than, Equal To

Greater than means bigger number.

Less than means smaller number.

Equal means same number.

8 is greater than 5.

3 is less than 7.

4 is equal to 4.
5. Addition

Addition means putting things together.

2+3=5

4+1=5

If you have 2 apples and get 3 more, you have 5 apples.

Addition makes the number bigger.


6. Subtraction

Subtraction means taking away.

5-2=3

9-4=5

If you have 5 candies and eat 2, 3 candies are left.

Subtraction makes the number smaller.


7. Shapes

Circle looks like a ball.

Square has 4 equal sides.

Triangle has 3 sides.

Rectangle has 4 sides.

We see shapes everywhere around us.


8. Time

A clock tells us time.

There are 60 minutes in one hour.

There are 24 hours in one day.

We go to school in the morning.

We sleep at night.
9. Money

We use money to buy things.

In India, we use rupees.

Coins and notes are used as money.

If a toy costs 10 rupees and you give 20 rupees, you get 10 rupees back.

3. Subtract: 8 - 5 = ?
