This research was conducted to analyze the relationship between mental health and academic
achievement in medical students in Indonesia. In addition, this research also identified
differences in impact based on the gender of the student. In life, especially in the student
environment, mental health is a very important aspect of everyday life. Good mental health
allows individuals to function optimally, but high doses of influence from the outside world
can give rise to internal conflicts such as depression, anxiety and stress. These conflicts can
later disrupt a person's cognitive, affective and behavioral functions, as well as have a
negative impact on academic achievement. This research was conducted using a quantitative
survey method using questionnaires and the PHQ-9 depression test or Patient Health
Questionnaire with research subjects of 30 medical students at Muhammadiyah University of
Yogyakarta. It is hoped that the results of this research can contribute to providing an in-
depth understanding regarding the influence of mental health on students' academic
performance and the differences in its impact between women and men.
