Narrative Report
Field Study Experience
On the first day of our field study, we had an orientation and a tour of the
school and classrooms. We were introduced to the school policies, teachers,
and our cooperating teacher (CT) who guided us throughout our practicum.
We also visited different classrooms and facilities. Through this orientation, I
clearly understood my roles and responsibilities as a pre-service teacher. I
learned that being punctual, respectful, and professional is very important
inside the school. I also realized that proper preparation and knowing the
school rules help create a smooth and organized learning environment.
On the second day, we started observing classes in nursery, kindergarten,
and Grade 2. I noticed the big difference in teaching strategies depending on
the age level of the students. In nursery and kindergarten, teachers used
songs, actions, games, and colorful visual aids to catch the children’s
attention. In Grade 2, the discussion was more structured, but interactive
activities were still necessary to keep students engaged. I also observed the
dance practice of the kindergarten students for their upcoming program.
From this, I learned that young learners learn best through play and
movement. I also learned that patience and creativity are very important
qualities for teachers, especially in handling small children.
On the third day, I observed and assisted at St. Louie Learning Center. I
helped distribute materials and guided students while they were working on
their tasks. In the afternoon, I observed the Grade 2 class again. I saw how
the teacher managed the classroom, maintained discipline, and encouraged
participation. I learned different classroom management techniques, such as
giving clear instructions, using positive reinforcement, and keeping students
involved in the lesson. I realized that good classroom management creates a
better learning atmosphere and helps students focus.
On the fourth day, I observed and assisted again in the kindergarten class. I
helped organize the students and assisted during their practice for the
moving-up ceremony. I saw how excited and happy the children were while
preparing for their special day. From this experience, I learned the
importance of teamwork and cooperation between teachers and students. I
also understood that teachers play a big role not only in academics but also
in building students’ confidence and memories.
