1.​ Modals are helping verbs.


2.​ The first form of the verb is used with Modals.
3.​ Agree with singular and plural subjects.

1. Can:
○​ Ability: I can swim. He can play the guitar.
○​ Possibility: It can rain today.
○​ Permission(Informal): Can I take your book?
Can you help me ?
2. Could:
○​ Ability (past): I could run very fast when I was young.
○​ Possibility: It could rain today.
○​ Permission (polite)(only with you): Could you take your pen, please?

○​ Request (Polite)(only with I): Might I take your pen please?

8. Would:
○​ Willingness (with like to V1): I would like to invite the chief guest.
○​ Possibility: He would come on time.
○​ Polite request(only with you): Would you like some tea?
○​ Past events: I would get up late on holidays.
○​ Past Tense: He told me that he would help me.
