Statement of Purpose

I am applying for the Master of Science in Criminology at Leeds Beckett University with a strong
academic interest in understanding crime, criminal behaviour, and the social and psychological
factors that influence offending and victimisation. My academic background in Psychology,
combined with research-oriented skills and professional experience in analytical roles, has
motivated me to pursue advanced postgraduate study in criminology. This programme represents
an important step toward my long-term goal of contributing to evidence-based crime prevention,
social justice, and policy development.
Academic Background
I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of
Baroda, India, in 2025. My undergraduate studies provided me with a solid theoretical foundation
in human behaviour, cognition, emotional processes, and social interaction. Through modules in
psychological research methods, behavioural analysis, and statistical understanding, I developed
strong analytical and critical thinking skills that are essential for criminological study.
Psychology has played a significant role in shaping my academic interests, particularly in
understanding deviant behaviour, aggression, decision-making, and the impact of social and
environmental factors on individuals. My training in qualitative and quantitative research methods,
data collection, survey design, and academic writing has prepared me to engage rigorously with
criminological theory and empirical research at postgraduate level.
In addition, my academic experience enhanced my ethical awareness, observational skills, and
ability to analyse complex human behaviour—key competencies for studying crime, victimology,
and criminal justice systems.
Professional Experience and Skills Development
Alongside my academic studies, I worked as a Digital Marketing Executive at Melonades from
2020 to 2022. In this role, I analysed consumer behaviour, monitored digital engagement patterns,
evaluated campaign performance using analytical tools, and collaborated with cross-functional
teams. Although this role was outside the criminal justice sector, it strengthened my ability to
interpret data, assess behavioural trends, and apply analytical thinking to real-world contexts.
This professional experience enhanced my research discipline, attention to detail, communication
skills, and ability to work ethically with data—skills that are directly transferable to criminological
research, policy analysis, and crime-related studies.

Career Goals and Future Plans
After completing my MSc in Criminology, I plan to return to my home country and pursue a career
in crime research, social policy analysis, or criminal justice–related organizations. I aim to work
with research institutions, NGOs, or policy bodies focusing on crime prevention, youth
development, rehabilitation, and social awareness.
In the long term, I aspire to contribute to criminological research and community-based
interventions that address the root causes of crime, promote mental well-being, and support
evidence-informed policy development. I am also interested in continuing academic research and
contributing to scholarly work in criminology and applied social sciences.
