• Cement: OPC 43Grade Cement to be used for civil works shall confirm
to all relevant IS code 8112 as mentioned in the reference and as
specified in the contract. The cement shall be stored above ground in a
suitable weather tight godown and in such a manner to permit easy access
for proper inspection and to prevent deformation due to moisture. Cement
held in storage for a period of 90 days or longer shall be tested.

• Water: Water to be used for construction works shall conforming to IS

456. Portable water is generally satisfactory. Water containing any
excess of acid, alkali, sugar or salt shall not be used.

• Aggregates: Aggregates shall be obtained from an approved source. Fine

aggregate should be used as per IS 383 table no: 9. the sand shall be
clean, free from dust, vegetable substances, clay, salt and other
deleterious substances. Coarse aggregate for concrete shall confirm to IS
383. This shall consist of crushed stone and shall be clean and free from
elongated, flaky, clay lumps, slag, alkali and other deleterious matter.
Coarse aggregate shall be in single size or graded, in both cases the
aggregate shall be within the limits of IS 383 table no: 7. The Oneness
modulus of sand shall neither be less than 2.2 nor more than 3.2. The
sand will not contain more than 8% silt.

4.2 SEQUENCE OF WORK

The sequence of operation for Concreting shall be as follows:
Survey
• The surveyor will conduct survey as per the co-ordinates shown
in the drawing with reference to the GPS identified by the
Engineer / Client.
• Levels also will be transferred from the identified benchmarks
(BM), which will be established near the site in an undisturbed
structure.

This will be used in future activities & periodically these survey
points will be checked to find the accuracy.
EXCAVATION
• Once the survey work is completed, the centerline shall be marked
on the Portion to be excavated.
• The excavation may be done mechanically or manually according to
the site and soil condition to the required dimension and to the
required depth as per the drawing with due consideration for the
workable space. Excavate as per the excavation scheme. Avoid over
excavation.

• If the excavation is deeper, adopt shoring if required.

• Keep excavation pits free from water. Use dewatering pumps if
required.
• After Completion of the excavation, required level and size to be
trimmed and cleaned.
• If the excavated soil is found sandy the same shall be used for
backfilling other wise any other approved earth shall be used for
backfilling.

PLAIN CEMENT CONCRETE:

• Ingredients for PCC { 1:3: 6), between the foundation bottom and
over excavated area.
• Check the center of the excavated pit; check the dimensions and
orientation of PCC.
• Clean the pit by removing all the loose materials.
• Prepare the formwork for PCC to correct dimensions and levels.
• Ingredients for PCC are mixed mechanically in the Mixer Machine
according to the mix mentioned in the specifications & drawing.
• Placing of the concrete will be done manually. Chutes will be
provided to avoid segregation. The poured PCC will be compacted
manually with steel rammers.

REINFORCEMENT
• Prepare Bar bending schedule based on the reinforcement drawings.
• All bars shall be accurately bent gradually and according to the
shapes and sizes as shown in drawings or as per BBS.
• Re bending or straightening incorrectly shall not be done without
approval of authority’s Engineer.
• Reinforcement shall be accurately fixed and maintained firmly in the
correct position using cover blocks, spacers, chairs, binding wire
etc. to prevent displacement during placing and compaction of
concrete.
• Binding wire shall be 16-gauge soft annealed wire.
• Place the rods as per the drawing, take care that the lapping is
always staggered & no adjacent bars have laps at same location 8s

that the structure is chipped and cleaned before placing the
reinforcement & also the reinforcement of the existing structure
shall be over lapped and tied properly with the Reinforcement for
which concrete is to be done.

• Grade of concrete should be done as given in drawing and miXlRg
ratio should be based on approved design mix.
• Prior to start of placement of concrete, the entire area, which has been
approved for pouring of concrete, shall be cleaned with help of
compressed air / water.
• Concrete should not be dropped from a height of more than l . Om.
• While placing concrete, to ensure, without disturbance to forms or

for this purpose, and by using suitable chutes or pipes.
• Concrete shall normally be compacted in its final position within
thirty minutes of leaving the mixer.
• Immersion vibrators shall be inserted vertically at points not more
than 45omrn apart and withdrawn slowly till air bubbles cease to

successive layers. Vibrators shall not be allowed to meet
reinforcement, form work and finished surfaces after start of initial
set.
• Each placement of concrete in multiple lift work shall be allowed to
set for at least 24 hours after the final set of concrete before the
start of subsequent placement.

• Chutes shall have slopes not flatter than l vertical, 3 horizontal

and not steeper than l vertical 2 horizontal.

• The leveling of concrete shall generally be done with manual screed.
