PHYSICS 2
2nd PROBLEM SET (QUARTER 3)
INSTRUCTIONS: Show the complete solution of the following problem. Write the problem and
the solution in long bond paper/s.

1. Copper power lines sag more during hot weather. A copper wire is 100 m long at 10 °C.
Find its length at 40 °C.?

2. Steel railway tracks are laid with small gaps to prevent damage during hot days.
A steel rail is 12 m long at 20 °C. How much does it expand when the temperature rises
to 50 °C.?

3. A copper wire expands by 3 mm when heated from 20 °C to 120 °C. find its initial
length.?

4. A mercury thermometer works based on volume expansion.

If the mercury volume is 0.80 cm³ at 0 °C, what is its volume at 100 °C.?

5. A fuel truck contains gasoline that expands by 0.90 L when the temperature increases
from 18 °C to 38 °C. Find the initial volume of the gasoline.?

6. A student heats 1.5 kg of water from 25 °C to 80 °C for making coffee.

How much heat is required.?

7. The human body (mass = 70 kg) has an average specific heat of 3500 J/(kg·°C). Find the
body’s heat capacity.?

8. A 2.0 kg aluminum pan is heated. Find the heat capacity of the pan. If it absorbs
72,000 J of heat, what is the temperature increase.?

9. A swimming pool contains 1,200 kg of water. By how much will the temperature
increase if 10.08 MJ of heat is supplied.?

10. A car radiator contains 5 kg of water at 95 °C. If it loses 350 kJ of heat to the
environment, what is the final temperature.?
