1. What is Science?
 Science is the study of the world around us.
 It helps us answer questions by observing,
experimenting, and learning.
2. The Scientific Method
Scientists follow a set of steps to find answers.
1. Ask a Question – What do I want to know?
o Example: Which melts faster: ice in the sun
or ice in the shade?
2. Make a Hypothesis – A guess about what
will happen.
o Example: I think the ice in the sun will melt
faster.
3. Experiment – Test your hypothesis.
o Put one ice cube in the sun, another in the
shade.
4. Observe and Collect Data – Watch and
write down what happens.
o Example: Time how long each ice cube
takes to melt.
5. Conclusion – Decide what you learned.
o Example: The ice in the sun melted faster,
so my hypothesis was correct.
6. Share Results – Tell others what you
discovered.
3. Research Terms (Simple Definitions)
 Question → What you want to find out.
 Hypothesis → Your best guess.
 Experiment → The test you do.
 Variable → Something that can change in an
experiment.
o Independent variable → what you change.
o Dependent variable → what you measure.
o Control → what stays the same.
 Data → The information you collect.
