1. Sets

a) Define proper subset. [1K]

A is a proper subset of B, then A ⊂ B and A ≠ B.

A proper subset of a set is a subset that contains some but not all elements of the original set. If

b) Write the improper subset of L. [1U]

Ans: {a, b, c}

c) If e, i, o, u are the members of set M only, then what type of sets are L and M? Write with
reason. [1HA]
Ans: They will not have any common elements, they are disjoint sets.

2. Discount and Profit

a) Write the formula to find the discount percent. [1K]

Ans: Discount %=DMP×100%\text{Discount \%} = \frac{D}{MP} \times 100 \%

b) How much discount did Ramdev get on a 7% discount? [1U]

Discount = 7% of Rs. 3,900
= (7/100) × 3900 = Rs. 273
Ans: Rs. 273

c) What was the cost price if the shopkeeper gained 17% after giving 7% discount? [2A]
Selling Price (SP) = 3900 - 273 = 3627

17% profit ⇒ 3627 = x × 1.17

Let Cost Price (CP) be x.

x=36271.17=Rs.3,100x = \frac{3627}{1.17} = Rs. 3,100

Ans: Rs. 3,100

3. Simple Interest & Ratio

a) At what percent interest rate per annum did Sangita deposit the money? [1K]
Ans: 5% p.a.

b) How much interest will she get in 2 years? [2A]

Simple Interest = P×R×T100=100000×5×2100=Rs.10,000\frac{P \times R \times T}{100} = \
frac{100000 \times 5 \times 2}{100} = Rs. 10,000
Ans: Rs. 10,000

c) How much more will the elder daughter get than the younger daughter? [2HA]
Age ratio = 12:8 = 3:2
Total = 5 parts
Elder = 35×100000=Rs.60,000\frac{3}{5} \times 100000 = Rs. 60,000
Younger = 25×100000=Rs.40,000\frac{2}{5} \times 100000 = Rs. 40,000
Difference = Rs. 20,000
Ans: Rs. 20,000

4. Capacity and Binary System

a) Write 37,200 l in scientific notation. [1U]

Ans: 3.72 × 10⁴ l

b) Monthly water cost for 8,520 l at 30 paisa per litre. [1HA]

= 8520 × 0.30 = Rs. 2,556
Ans: Rs. 2,556

c) Convert 0.343434... into a fraction. [2U]

Let x = 0.343434…
100x = 34.343434…
Subtract: 100x - x = 99x = 34
x=3499x = \frac{34}{99}
Ans: 34/99

d) Binary for 43 = 101011 (1 = shaded, 0 = unshaded). [1HA]

Shaded boxes: 1, 3, 5, 6

5. Area of Land and Well

a) Write the formula to find the area of the well. [1K]

Ans: πr2\pi r^2

b) What is the area of the well? [1U]

Diameter = 1.4 m, so radius r = 0.7 m
Area = πr2=3.14×0.72=3.14×0.49=1.54\pi r^2 = 3.14 \times 0.7^2 = 3.14 \times 0.49 = 1.54 m²
Ans: 1.54 m²
c) What is the area of land except the well? [2A]
Total land area (trapezium) = 2200 m² (implied)
Land except well = 2200 - 1.54 = 2198.46 m²
Ans: 2198.46 m²

d) Is 190 meters of wire enough to fence the land? [2A]

To determine this, calculate the perimeter of the trapezium:

 Two parallel sides: 70 m and 40 m

 Vertical side: 40 m

 Slanted side: Use Pythagoras: (70−40)2+402=302+402=900+1600=2500=50\sqrt{(70 -

40)^2 + 40^2} = \sqrt{30^2 + 40^2} = \sqrt{900 + 1600} = \sqrt{2500} = 50 m

 Perimeter = 70 + 40 + 40 + 50 = 200 m

Bimala has 190 m wire, which is not enough. She needs 10 meters more.
Ans: No, 190 meters is not enough because the perimeter is 200 meters.

6. Laws of Indices and Algebra

a) Express xmxn\frac{x^m}{x^n} as the power of x. [1K]

Ans: xm−nx^{m - n}

b) Simplify: xx−y−xx+y\frac{x}{x - y} - \frac{x}{x + y} [2U]

x(x+y)−x(x−y)(x−y)(x+y)=x2+xy−x2+xyx2−y2=2xyx2−y2\frac{x(x + y) - x(x - y)}{(x - y)(x + y)} = \
frac{x^2 + xy - x^2 + xy}{x^2 - y^2} = \frac{2xy}{x^2 - y^2}
Ans: 2xyx2−y2\frac{2xy}{x^2 - y^2}

8. HCF and Zero of Expression

a) Find HCF of x2−5x+6x^2 - 5x + 6 and x2−9x^2 - 9 [2A]
x2−5x+6=(x−2)(x−3)x^2 - 5x + 6 = (x - 2)(x - 3), x2−9=(x−3)(x+3)x^2 - 9 = (x - 3)(x + 3)
HCF = (x - 3)
Ans: (x - 3)

b) What value of x makes x2−5x+6=0x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0? [2HA]
