INTRODUCTION TO NETWORKING
Group Assignment (50%)
Intake:
Hand Out Date: Week 2
Due Date – Team Work: Week 12 - Word Count Limit: 5000
Lecturer:
The objective of this assignment is to enable students to utilize fundamental principles of wired
network, as well as the Cisco Packet Tracer simulation tool, in order to design and set up a LAN
and WAN topology. Furthermore, students should be capable of developing their own IP addressing
scheme, employing subnetting to divide their network, and configuring network devices like routers
and switches.
[Link] Learning Outcomes:
CLO2: Apply suitable topology, IP addressing scheme and configuration techniques in a
network design based on the given scenario (C3, PLO2)
CLO3: Present network design and configuration using simulation tool (A2, PLO5)
Note: PLO2 –Cognitive Skills. PLO5 – Communication Skills.

As the network administrator for Prabidhi Enterprises, your job is to create a network for the New
Company which has three branches. The company has multiple branches in Kathmandu, Pokhara,
and Chitwan, and it requires a robust network infrastructure to ensure seamless communication
and data exchange between all branches. Your assignment is to design the network topology, justify
the IP address allocation, and create a subnet table for each branch. In addition, for efficient routing
within the network, it is essential to configure routers and switches effectively by implementing
static routing or RIP protocols. This approach guarantees the accurate and reliable routing of
packets to their designated destinations at all times. All staff will be using PCs with a suitable office
environment, and each department contains a voice-over-internet phone (VOIP) to communicate
with each other and a printer in each department that is connected to a network.
In addition to the documentation that captures the process of design and implementation, a
justification for the proposed solution will help the company to understand better for its needs and
help achieving the long-term business goals.
Your proposed network should also support Internet of Things (IoT) devices that are used to
automate and monitor various aspects of your business, such as temperature, lighting, CCTV,

Television, Biometrics and security devices (Firewall and endpoint security). These devices should
be connected to the network using wired connections.
Additionally, it is recommended that you allocate separate server rooms for different services such
as Domain Controller, Web servers, File servers, Domain name servers, DHCP servers, VPN Server
and email servers at different branches.
Your research should include :
Network Topology Design:
Create a logical topology that includes branches in Kathmandu , Pokhara & Chitwan
Justify the selection of common LAN and WAN topologies for specific branches based on
their requirements.
IP Address Justification:
Determine an appropriate IP address scheme for the entire network.
Create a subnet table & Gateway for each branch.
Determine an appropriate device for the entire network.
Network Device Configuration Techniques:
Justification of the configuration techniques for different network devices.
Include screenshots of the configuration process to demonstrate your understanding of the
device setup.
Basic Security measures like data backup, firewall, endpoint protection, etc.
The findings and outcome of your research should be arranged in a proper flow to be presented to
the Technical team who are involved in the full design of the network. In addition, prepare a Cisco
Packet Tracer diagram as a proof of concept for your research work.
[Link] Instructions for online submission:
1. The group assignment should be completed in a group of not more than 3 members. The
group documentation and packet tracer file must be submitted by the group leader.
2. Select a group leader among the members for the group assignment.
3. All submissions should be done in Moodle.
4. Double-check the work before online submission and make sure packet tracer and submitted
document are not corrupted.
