2. A high-impedance voltmeter is used to measure voltage drop across each of three series
connected ideal circuit elements. If the r.m.s. readings are 25 V, 40 V and 60 V for VR, VL and
VC respectively, determine the equation for the voltage wave representing the driving voltage

3. Calculate the admittance Y, the conductance G and the susceptance B of a circuit consisting of
a resistor of 10 in series with an inductor of 0.1 H when the frequency is 50 Hz. Ans (Y =

4. Two impedances consist of resistance of 15 ohm and series connected inductance of 0.04 H
and resistance of 10 ohm , inductance of 0.01 H and a capacitance of 100 µF, all in series are
connected in series and are connected to a 230 V, 50 Hz a.c. source. Find (i) current drawn (ii)
voltage across each impedance (iii) individual and total p.f. Draw the phasor diagram.

5. A capacitor of 50 µF is connected in parallel with a coil that has a resistance of 20 ohm and
inductance of 0·05 H. If this parallel combination is connected across 200 V, 50 Hz supply,
calculate (i) the line current (ii) power factor and (iii) power consumed.

6. A coil of resistance 50 ohm and inductance 318 mH is connected in parallel with a circuit
consisting of a 75 ohm resistor in series with a 159 µF capacitor. The circuit is connected to a
230 V, 50 Hz supply. Determine the supply current and circuit power factor.

7. Three impedances of (70.7 + j 70.7) ohm, (120 + j 160) ohm and (120 + j 90) ohm are connected
in parallel across a 250 V supply. Determine (i) admittance of the circuit (ii) supply current and
(iii) circuit power factor.

8. Three loads are placed across 230V, 50Hz supply. The loads are 10 ∠ – 30° ohm ; 20 ∠ 60°
ohm and 40 ∠ 0° ohm . Determine (i) the admittance (ii) equivalent impedance (iii) power
consumed and (iv) power factor.

9. Determine the potential difference across the capacitor in Fig. when there is a current input of
10 sin (1000 t + 30°) A.

10. A capacitor of 50 µF shunted across a non-inductive resistance of 100 ohm is connected in
series with a resistor of 50 W to a 200 V, 50 Hz supply. Find (i) the circuit current (ii) the
current in the capacitor (iii) the current through the shunted resistor.

11. For the circuit shown in Fig, determine (i) the circuit impedance (ii) power consumed in each
