Course Goals and
Objectives Course Goal
The goal of this course is to familiarize students with reading, reading
techniques and strategies. Students will learn reading strategies like Scanning,
Previewing, taking notes, identifying cause and effect, using context clues,
identifying main ideas and details, understanding the order of events and
making inference. Students will also have extensive reading to improve their
reading comprehension and learn applying reading strategies.
Course Objectives
During this course, students are going to achieve the following purposes:
The students will read different passages about different topics.
The students will learn scanning and they will apply it on the reading
passages.
Students will understand about synonyms, suffixes, prefixes, and using
dictionary.
Students will learn taking effective notes and they will take notes
during reading.
Students will learn Previewing and they will preview different texts in

the book.
Student develop skills on understanding the order of events;
Students use context clues to identify the meaning of new words while
facing them in a text.
Students predict the information in text before reading it to improve
comprehension;
Students write inferences to understand the underlying meaning in a
passage;
Students write summary for a book base on their extensive reading.

Course Evaluation The assessment is based on the following criteria:
Task 1:(10%) Assessment of work or classroom activities
Task 2: (10%) Assessment of the given project
Extensive Reading: (20%) (highlighting, note taking, summary)
Final Exam: (60%) (Descriptive, multiple-choice, applying strategies)
Plagiarism and Cheating On any assignment will result in a zero grade for that assignment.
Late Work It is NOT acceptable.

• Unnecessary interruption in the class proceeding must be avoided.
