SAFETY RULES
This document is intended to ensure the safe operation of the Mechanical Engineering Design
Laboratory. Students are expected to work in a safe, responsible, and professional manner at all
times. Violation of these rules may result in removal from the laboratory
1. READ THE SAFETY RULES
All students MUST read and fully understand these Safety Rules before starting any laboratory
activity. Participation in the lab implies acceptance of these rules.
2. DO NOT BRING FOOD OR DRINKS TO THE LAB.
3. THINK SAFETY
Work deliberately and carefully. Horseplay, running, or distracting others is strictly forbidden.
4. NEVER WORK ALONE IN THE LABORATORY
Students are strictly prohibited from working alone in the laboratory. At least one authorized
person must be present at all times.

6. PPE RULES APPLY INSIDE THE WORKING AREA
- Safety glasses MUST be worn in the working area.
- Closed-toe shoes should be worn.
- Long hair must be tied back.
- Remove jewelry, watches, ties, loose clothing.
- Gloves must not be used with rotating equipment.
7. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN AND DRY
Spilled water, oil, or debris must be cleaned immediately to prevent slips and electrical hazards.
DRILL SAFETY
1. Secure the workpiece using clamps or a vise before drilling.
2. Never hold the material by hand while drilling.
3. Do not wear gloves while using rotating drills.
4. Allow the drill bit to stop completely before placing the tool down.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
-Never work on live circuits.
-Always disconnect power before wiring, adjusting, or repairing.
-Keep hands dry when handling electrical equipment.
-Do not use damaged cables, plugs, or connectors.
WATER-RELATED EXPERIMENT SAFETY
-Ensure electrical equipment is kept away from water sources.
-Immediately clean water spills.
