Slide 1:
Good morning everyone,
It’s a pleasure to be here today. Before we begin, I’d like to ask you a quick question: How many
of you have ever opened a bank account or applied for a financial service online?
If you have, then you’ve probably experienced a process called eKYC, or electronic Know Your
Customer.
(optional) In today’s digital age, where convenience and security are more important than ever,
eKYC has become a key solution in the banking sector. It not only helps banks verify customer
identities quickly and accurately, but also enhances customer experience, reduces fraud, and
ensures compliance with regulations.
And along this presentation, we gonna give u guy more knowledge about ekyc in banking sector.
Here is the outline of our presentation. We have six main parts:
(1) Overview of eKYC,
(2) International experiences,
(3) eKYC in Vietnam’s banking sector,
(4) Legal framework and policies,
(5) Recommendations for Vietnam,
and finally, (6) a short game to make our session more interactive.
Slide 3:
eKYC stands for Electronic Know Your Customer.
It is a digital tool that allows banks to identify and verify customers entirely online.
Instead of going to a physical branch, customers can upload documents and confirm their
identity using biometrics, AI, and OCR technologies.
The biggest advantage is that no face-to-face meeting is required, making the process faster and
more convenient for both banks and customers
Now, let's break down how this process actually works, the key technologies
behind it
The eKYC process is a seamless, five-step digital journey:
1. A customer simply uploads their ID document.
2. OCR technology instantly scans and extracts the data.
3. A quick selfie or video confirms their live presence and matches the ID
photo.
4. This information is automatically checked against security and AML
watchlists.
5. Once verified, the identity is securely stored.
This entire flow replaces a slow, branch-based process with a fast, secure,
and automated one."

(optional) "This efficiency is powered by a suite of advanced
technologies. OCR reads the documents, while Face Recognition and
Liveness Detection ensure the person is real and present. AI and
Machine Learning automate checks and detect fraud,
and Blockchain offers new possibilities for secure, user-controlled data
storage. These are the engines that make digital onboarding possible."
Slide dtoc
But the story doesn't end at onboarding. eKYC provides the initial verified
identity. This now enables a powerful next step: the Digital Twin of the
Customer.
Think of this as a dynamic, digital replica of the customer, built from their
real-time data—from transactions to behaviors. While eKYC verifies identity
at the door, the Digital Twin continuously monitors for fraud, ensures
compliance, and allows for deeply personalized services throughout the
entire customer relationship. It's the shift from a one-time check to a
continuous, intelligent understanding of the customer.
PART 2:
Slide 1:
Now that we have a general understanding of what eKYC is and why it plays such an important
role in the banking sector, let’s take a broader perspective.
Around the world, many countries have already implemented eKYC in different ways,
depending on their regulations, technology infrastructure, and customer needs. By looking at
these international experiences, we can see both the opportunities and lessons that may guide us
in developing eKYC more effectively in our own context.
So in the next part, let’s explore international experience in eKYC.
Slide 2:
Our first case study is Singapore.
Singapore is one of the pioneers in digital transformation, and its approach to eKYC has become a
reference model for many other countries
Slide 3:
Following the World Bank report, Singapore is a small island nation with high income, 98% of its
population have a bank acc, and up to 97% of its population who over 15 own a mobile phone.
Additionally, Singapore has very strict regulations on documentation (I also call it is KYC process), and of
course also in the financial system.
All of these are premise for the development of ekyc.
And to quickly implement eKYC, Singapore launched the Smart Nation Initiative. This initiative paved the
way for eKYC through SingPass and MyInfo.
Slide 4:
I will give u some overall look about Smart Nation Initiative and Singpass My info
Let’s begin with the context. In 2014, Singapore launched the Smart Nation Initiative with the vision of
transforming into a smart nation.
One of its strategic national projects is the National Digital Identity – the foundation for Singpass and
MyInfo, which power eKYC.
Singapore's eKYC success is powered by two core components.
First, Singpass. Think of it as your digital identity authenticator. It's the
secure login key that proves you are who you say you are online.
Second, MyInfo. This is the government-managed personal data
platform. Once you authenticate with Singpass, MyInfo securely pre-fills
your verified details—like your name, date of birth, and address—from a
government source.
Together, they create a seamless flow: Singpass verifies your identity,
and MyInfo populates your data. This eliminates the need for physical
documents and manual entry, making eKYC fast, secure, and user-friendly.
With this system, the KYC process is fully digitalized: it reduces processing time by 80%, increases
approval rates by 15%, and minimizes fraud.
So, eKYC in Singapore is not just a financial technology – it’s a national digital infrastructure
Slide 5: Video
up to nearlt 90% KH rất hài lòng và hài lòng với dịch vụ digital banking
Slide 12:
Ok now we move to the second study case: india
While Singapore developed eKYC from a position of stability, India's story is
fundamentally different. It was a challenge of financial inclusion on a
massive scale.
Before 2010, the challenges were immense: only 1 in 25 people had a valid
ID, and just about 25% of the population held a bank account. How can you
perform KYC when a majority of citizens lack official identification?
The turning point was the introduction of Aadhaar in 2010—a unique identity
number linked to biometric data. This became the cornerstone of the 'India
Stack,' the architecture for India's digital finance revolution.
Slide 13:
Slide 14:
The application of Aadhaar-based eKYC yielded immediate and impressive
results. For instance, as early as October 2013, a pioneering bank launched
paperless account opening.
Customers simply needed to visit an agent, enter their Aadhaar number, and
authenticate with their fingerprint on a MicroATM device. They would
immediately receive their account number printed on a receipt. A process
that once took 7-10 days was slashed to just 1 day.
Slide 15:
Another prime example is HDFC Bank in December 2014. By partnering with
the NPCI, customers could scan their fingerprint after entering their Aadhaar
number. This automatically populated the account opening form with their
verified name, address, date of birth, and photo.
This convenience was later integrated with the Unified Payments Interface
(UPI), allowing for quick authentication for electronic transactions. The result
was the opening of tens of millions of accounts within a very short period.
Slide 16:
Slide 17:
"This success was driven by several key factors such as a national identity
platform, cost-effectiveness & inclusivity,…
