Our lesson for today class is all about (students are claping)
“ANTICIPATION BY MABLE DOVE DANQUAH”
and yes Ana guess correctly because later we
will talk about the said themes about love and
marriage.

But before we proceed to our topic let us read


the objectives of todays lesson

OBJECTIVES:

ANTICIPATION is a short story written by share their lives together.
Mable Dove Danquah. So let us get to know
first the writer.

Mable Ellen Dove Danquah was a freedom


fighter, political activist, first female of the
Legislative Assembly in Gold Coast, journalist,
and one of the first African literary feminist.

Now let us also get to know the characters of


the story.

Characters:
 Nana Adaku II
- Omanhene of Akwasin
- Has forty wives at the age of 55
- Lord and master of Effua, one of
his wives.

 Effua
- One of Nana Adaku’s wives
- One of the dancer of Adawa dance

 Omanhene’s Head Linguist


- The one whom the omanhene
knew as a man of facts and
diplomacy and was sure that night
would bring his wife.
 Sasa the Jester
- Looks ludicrous in his motley pair
of trousers and his crop of monkey
skin.
 Oda
- The omanhene’s new wife who
cried bitterly when he called her
Oda, the name of an old ugly wife.
 Captain Hobbs
- The district commissioner and the
one who sits near the omanhene.
 Other chiefs
- Came on after the other under the
brightly colored state umbrellas.

We will get to know these characters later on. Ok class


let us now move on to the plot elements or the plot
development of the story.

Exposition: Nana Adaku II Omeanhene of Akwasin was


celebrating the 20th anniversary of his accession to the
stool of Akwasin, the capital, Nkwabi, was thronged
with people from the outlying towns and villages.

Raising Action: One dancer of Adowa dance looks


particularly enchanting in her green, blue and red
square kente, moving the simple, charming grave of a
wild woodland creature, The Omanhene was attracted
to the dancer named Effua and said he must have her
as a wife.

Climax: The linguist told the Omanhene that the


dancer he was attracted to might already be married
but he said “I will pay one hundred pound for her and
pay her husband any money he demands”

Falling Action: The Linguist successfully bring Nana


Adaku II wife Effua to help him celebrate the
anniversary of his accession to the Akwasin stool.

Denouement: The Omanhene told Effua “ You are


charming and a lovely girl” Effua replyied “You already
have seen me before, two years ago you gave me fifty
thousand pounds as a dowry and we had been married
since then”.

Alright, we will have another set of activity I


call this one “ BOX OF YOUR CHOICE”. For this
activity I will group you into 2 groups. Each
group would select 2 representatives to come
here in front and pick a box of their choice. The
other box will contain a question and the
representative who got the question should
answer it correctly to gain 5 points, if he?she
can’t answer the question then the other
representative will have a chance to steal the
points. And who ever group could have the
highest points at the end of the lesson will Yes sir
receive a special price! Did you understand
class? Let us now beggin!
