BASIC 7 INTEGRATED SCIENCE NOTES

1. INTRODUCTION TO INTEGRATED SCIENCE

Integrated Science combines Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science and Health
Science.

Importance:

- Helps solve problems

- Improves technology

- Promotes good health

- Protects the environment

2. LABORATORY SAFETY

A laboratory is a place where scientific experiments are carried out.

Safety Rules:

- Do not eat or drink in the lab

- Follow instructions

- Wear protective clothing

- Handle chemicals carefully

- Report accidents immediately

3. LIVING AND NON-LIVING THINGS

Characteristics of Living Things (MRS GREN):

Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition.

4. CELLS

A cell is the basic unit of life.

Plant Cell Parts: Cell wall, Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Chloroplast, Vacuole.

Animal Cell Parts: Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Small vacuole.


5. MATTER

Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.

States of Matter: Solid, Liquid, Gas.

Changes of State: Melting, Freezing, Evaporation, Condensation.

6. ENERGY

Energy is the ability to do work.

Forms: Heat, Light, Sound, Electrical, Chemical.

Sources: Sun, Fuel, Food, Batteries.

7. FORCE AND MOTION

Force is a push or pull.

Effects: Change shape, direction, speed.

Types: Gravitational, Frictional, Magnetic.

Motion is movement from one place to another.

8. HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS

Digestive System – Breaks down food.

Respiratory System – Helps in breathing and gas exchange.

9. ENVIRONMENT AND POLLUTION

Types: Air, Water, Land, Noise pollution.

Prevention: Plant trees, Recycle waste, Avoid littering.

10. REPRODUCTION IN PLANTS

Sexual reproduction (seeds).

Asexual reproduction (cuttings, runners).


11. SIMPLE MACHINES

Lever, Pulley, Inclined plane, Wheel and axle.
