A great teacher possesses strong professional competence such as mastery of subject

students to learn.
2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?
No. These competencies are not limited to professional competencies. A great teacher

effective teaching.

No, it is not enough. While professional competencies are important, a great teacher
must also connect with students emotionally and socially. Teaching is not only about
delivering lessons and grades but also about understanding learners, encouraging them,
creating a safe learning environment, and shaping their character and confidence.
4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important – personal qualities or
professional competencies?
Both personal qualities and professional competencies are important for a teacher to be
great. Professional competencies ensure that the teacher knows the subject well and can
teach it effectively. However, personal qualities such as patience, empathy,
understanding, and dedication help build strong relationships with students. A great
teacher balances both, because knowledge alone is not enough without a good attitude
and genuine care for learners.
5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

Reflection
As a student, this episode helped me understand what truly makes a teacher great. I
realized that students do not only look at how intelligent or knowledgeable a teacher is,
but more importantly, how they treat their students. A teacher who is kind, patient, and
understanding creates a classroom where students feel comfortable and motivated to
learn.
From my experience, the teachers I remember most are those who believed in me and
encouraged me to do better. They were calm, approachable, and willing to listen. They
did not embarrass students for mistakes but instead guided us to improve. Because of
them, I became more confident and inspired to study harder.
This lesson also made me reflect on myself as a future teacher. If I want to become
effective someday, I need to develop not only my knowledge and teaching skills but also
my character. I must learn to be patient, open-minded, and fair to all students. I
understand now that teaching is not just about delivering lessons, but about building
