Simulation Lesson Plan – Mathematics (Class 10,

Probability)

Introduction (2 min)
Good morning, students! Today we are going to study a very interesting topic – Probability. Tell me,
when you play Heads or Tails with a coin, do you know what the chances are of winning? Exactly!
That’s probability – it tells us how likely an event is to happen.

Concept Explanation (5–6 min)

Probability of an event = (Number of favorable outcomes) ÷ (Total number of outcomes)

• Coin Toss: Outcomes = {H, T}. Probability of Head = 1/2. Probability of Tail = 1/2.
• Dice Throw: Outcomes = {1,2,3,4,5,6}. Probability of getting 4 = 1/6. Probability of getting even
number (2,4,6) = 3/6 = 1/2. Probability of getting number greater than 4 = 2/6 = 1/3.
• Cards Example: Deck = 52 cards. Probability of red card = 26/52 = 1/2. Probability of king =
4/52 = 1/13.

Illustration (3–4 min)

Example: A day is chosen randomly from a week. Find the probability that it is Sunday. Solution:
Total outcomes = 7 (Mon–Sun). Favorable = 1 (Sunday). Probability = 1/7.

Student Activity (2 min)

Call a student to toss a coin. Ask: If we toss the coin 10 times, how many times do you expect
Heads? Answer: About 5 times.

Recap / Conclusion (2 min)

• Probability is always between 0 and 1.
• Probability of getting odd number on dice = 3/6 = 1/2.
• Probability of getting 8 on dice = 0.
• Probability tells us the chance of an event. Used in games, weather, insurance, cricket
predictions, etc.

Homework
Q1. A letter is chosen from the word MATHEMATICS. Find the probability of getting: a) A vowel, b)
Letter ‘T’.
