ImPerfect Manual

Introduction

ImPerfect is a unique synthesizer plugin.

It combines the advantages of the digital world while preserving a lot of the features
and character from the analog world. Designed to bring you endless versatility while
kipping everything simple and straight forward for anyone who played a synthesizer
before.
The Modules

Lets take a look at the different modules within the synthesizer.

Oscillators

There are 5 oscillators: Osc1, Osc2, Sampler, Sub and

Noise.
Osc1 & Osc2 have a rotary knob which lets you choose
between the 4 main waveforms: Saw, Sine, Triangular
and square, or any combination between them.
Each Osc have an octave switch, detune, and pulse width
controls.
Osc1 have a ring modulation control which mix the ring
mod signal with Osc1 signal. The ring signal is
modulated by Osc2.
Osc2 have a FM (frequency modulation) control which
modulate Osc2 freq by the signal of Osc1.
The Sampler tuning controls are the same as Osc2 tuning
controls.
The Sub Oscillator is always 1 octave down from Osc1.

Mixer

Set the output gain from each oscillator

and mix all of the signals together.
You can also choose the waveform of the
sub oscillator and the noise color of the
noise oscillator.
Filter

An analog style 24db/oct variable state filter.

Drive will add analog saturation to the signal.
Envelope 1 is routed directly to the filter so
you don't need to choose it from the envelope
menu.
Keyboard Tracking will increase the cutoff
frequency depending on the hight of the note
played.

Envelops

Envelope 1 is connected to the filter cutoff and Envelope 2 is connected to

the VCA controlling the gain of each note.
In addition you can choose from the drop menu any modulation target and
set the amount knob to modulate it with positive or negative values.

LFOs

The low frequency oscillators can modulate any

destination from the dropdown menu.
Click the SYNC button to sync the LFO rate to your host
BPM.
Effects

The effects section contain a phaser, chorus and

delay stereo effects.
A mono signal comes from the output of the filter
and splits to the 3 parallel connected stereo
effects, which are summed at the output into one
stereo signal.

X / Y Pads

The x/y pads lets you modulate 2 different

targets – 1 for the x axis and one for the y axis.
A mode – the circle will always come back to
the center once you let go of it.
B mode – grab the circle by clicking on it, drag
and release. The circle will continue bouncing
endlessly.
C mode – just like B mode but here the circle will gradually slow down
until it stops completely.

Arpeggiator

Click the ARP button to switch the

arpeggiator on. Choose the up or down
modes and how many octaves (1-4) it will go through.
The Rate can be sync to the host BPM or run independently.
When ARP is on, the POLY and MONO buttons are
controlling the arpeggiator LATCH on/off.
LATCH OFF – the arp will play as long as you are pressing a note.
LATCH ON – the arp will start to play when a note (or number of notes) is
pressed, and continue to play even on notes release. Press another note (or
notes) again to change the notes.
Global Control

Tune – control the global tune of the

synth.
Glide – (mono only) the notes pitch will glide from one note to the next.
POLY/MONO – choose between monophonic (1 note plays at a time) and
polyphonic (up to 16 voices at a time).
Master Gain – control the main volume of the synth output.

Wacky, Cracky and Shaky

Wacky – increase the amount of the 3 effects.

Cracky – adds analog style saturation to the output
signal (including the effects signal).
Shaky – modulate the global tune with both LFOs
and Env1 signals, changing from a slight detune
into extreme pitch modulation effect.

Scope

Lets you see the visual shape of the

output signal as well as a stereo meter
of the output signal.
Presets Manager

Browse to choose the

preset you like. Click load
or double click to load it
and close the presets
manager window.

If Auto Load is enable,

clicking a preset will
temporarily load it for you
to try, you can use the up
and down arrow keys on
your keyboard to browse
and try each preset. When
you found the one you like, click load or double click it.
Save – after you make your own sound, open the presets manager and
click Save. Give it a name and save it in one of the subfolders on your
presets folder.

The path to the presets folder is -

Mac – “userfolder”/Library/Application Support/ImPerfect-Presets/
Win – C:\Users\"userfolder"\AppData\Local\ImPerfect-Presets\

* If you are saving a preset with a sampled file – if the file is not found in
its original path, the sampler will look for it in the “Audio” folder inside
the presets folder. Therefore it is safe and wise to copy the audio file into
the “Audio” folder to prevent losing it in the future and making sharing of
presets more easy.
