Self reflection checklist

Focus & Purpose


o What is the main lesson, realization, or message of your story?
Always trust your gut and be confident with yourself because if you
are already in the spot might as well make the most of it.
o Is this message clear throughout your essay? If not, how can you
make it stronger? Personally, I put to much detail of the day and got
out of focus from the message.
Organization & Flow
o Does your essay have a clear beginning, middle, and end? I did a suitable job
with having clear details.
o Are transitions smooth and logical between paragraphs? There are some
transitions that could have been better, but most were smooth and logical it’s
close to the end of my essay when my transitions got weird.
o Did you include enough context early in the essay to help readers understand
the situation? I put the most context in the beginning of my essay.
Details & Description
o Where did you use vivid or sensory language effectively? I used
vivid and sensory language when explaining the beginning of the
day in my essay.
o Are there areas where you could add more description or dialogue
to show emotion or conflict? I could have used more description
when closing out my essay.
Voice & Style
o How would you describe your writing voice in this essay (formal,
conversational, reflective)? My writing voice was more conversational in the
essay.
o Is your voice consistent throughout? Does it sound authentic to you? I can say that I was
consistent throughout and I tried to sound as authentic as possible.
Reflection & Insight
o What do you want readers to learn from your story? I want readers to
understand that most decisions and awkward situations you just have to be
confident and trust yourself.
o Does your conclusion clearly connect back to your main insight or lesson
learned? I am sure that my conclusion sounded rough and was kind of
connected back.
Grammar & Mechanics
o Have you proofread carefully for grammar, spelling, and
punctuation errors? Yes
o Did you format the essay in MLA style (12 pt. Times New
Roman, double-spaced, heading, title, etc.)? Yes
Final Reflection
In 3–4 sentences, summarize what you learned from revising your
essay. What will you do differently in your next writing assignment
to make your work even stronger?
For my next writing assignment, I am going to try and focus on
staying on the topic. I tend to get off topic at the middle of my
essays and then slowly start to go back to the topic at the end. To
make my writing stronger I will try to connect the details used in the
middle of my essay to make connections to my point that I’m trying
to get across to the reader.
