Solar System

The solar system consists of all celestial bodies that orbit the sun, including eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. It formed about 4.7 billion years ago from gas and dust, with gravity causing clumps to form, including the sun. The solar system also contains asteroids, comets, and previously included Pluto, which is now classified as a dwarf planet.
