Class IX – Mathematics Sample Question Paper

(CBSE Pattern)

General Instructions:
• 1. All questions are compulsory.
• 2. The question paper consists of 4 sections A, B, C and D.
• 3. Use of calculator is not permitted.
• 4. Draw neat diagrams wherever required.
• 5. Marks are indicated against each question.

Section A (1 × 10 = 10 Marks)
• 1. Find the value of x if 3x + 5 = 20.
• 2. Is 0 a rational number?
• 3. Write the decimal expansion of 1/8.
• 4. Find the area of a circle of radius 7 cm (Use π = 22/7).
• 5. Find the median of first five natural numbers.
• 6. If the perimeter of a square is 40 cm, find its side.
• 7. Find the value of (2³ × 2²).
• 8. Write the formula for the area of a triangle.
• 9. State Pythagoras theorem.
• 10. Find the mean of 2, 4, 6, 8.

Section B (2 × 8 = 16 Marks)
• 11. Factorise: x² + 5x + 6.
• 12. Find the value of (101)² using identity.
• 13. Plot the point (3, –2) on the Cartesian plane.
• 14. Find the surface area of a cube of side 4 cm.
• 15. In a triangle, two angles are 45° and 55°. Find the third angle.
• 16. Find the simple interest on ■2000 at 5% per annum for 2 years.
• 17. Find the perimeter of a rectangle of length 10 cm and breadth 6 cm.
• 18. Construct a triangle with sides 5 cm, 6 cm and 7 cm.

Section C (3 × 8 = 24 Marks)
• 19. Prove that √5 is irrational.
• 20. Solve: 2x – 3 = 7.
• 21. Find the area of a trapezium whose parallel sides are 10 cm and 14 cm and height is 5 cm.
• 22. Find the probability of getting a head when a coin is tossed.
• 23. Draw a histogram for the following data: 0–10: 3, 10–20: 5, 20–30: 7.
• 24. Find the volume of a cylinder of radius 7 cm and height 10 cm.
• 25. In ∆ABC, if AB = AC, prove that ∠B = ∠C.
• 26. Factorise: x³ – 27.
Section D (5 × 6 = 30 Marks)
• 27. Solve the linear equation in two variables: 2x + 3y = 12 and find two solutions.
• 28. Using Heron’s formula, find the area of a triangle with sides 13 cm, 14 cm and 15 cm.
• 29. Construct a triangle similar to a given triangle whose sides are 3/4 of the corresponding
sides of the given triangle.
• 30. Find the mean, median and mode of the following data: 2, 4, 4, 6, 8, 8, 8, 10.
• 31. Prove that the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.
• 32. A die is thrown once. Find the probability of getting (i) a prime number (ii) a number greater
than 4.
