In the duration of my internship at Statefields School, Inc.
I was able to gain a lot of
lessons from the Guidance Services Department. It was hard to adjust at first because it was a
new environment for me but eventually, I got to fully settled in and get comfortable as my
internship duration goes by. My tasks under the Guidance and Services Department were to
conduct a routine interview, assist the Guidance facilitators, students as well as parents and to
fully immerse the process the work and professional roles of all people involved in the
Guidance Services Department.
Being assigned at the Guidance and Services Department made me realize a lot of
things. First of all, in the work that they do such as the admission process, entrance
examination, routine interview as well as the admission interview, I realized how each step
and work that the Guidance facilitators do are important to ensure that the students are
mentally and emotionally ready for school and to also keep the student’s mental and
emotional state stable. Second, I realized how greatly significant their roles are as a Guidance
facilitator, because in their everyday work they do not deal only with the student’s well-being
but they go in-depth to solve or provide the best solution and advice to the students’ concern.
They are also very hands-on on their task. Third, I realized how you can be open with them,
because usually when you are under an intern and supervisor relationship, building a friendly
and close relationship atmosphere is not usually an ideal relationship, as much as possible a
professional relationship should be integrated, however, as days goes by, I see myself
enjoying the presence of every facilitator and how I eventually enjoy the tasks they assigned
to us. I got to evaluate the work ethics and attitude of my co-interns, which on a positive note,
was good because I already have an experience about how to deal with my future co-workers
no matter what attitude or work ethics, they bring in the workplace. Another lesson that I
learned during my stay is that we work to accomplish a task or to provide help, advice or
solution to other people we do not work to make friends but to establish a good
communication and a good working atmosphere where everyone shares a principle and goal.
Lastly, I have gained a fruitful and fun experience during my educational setting which I
know I will be able to apply in the future.
