Networking Assignment

The document outlines an assignment for a Network Configuration and Administration course at Kampala International University, where the student is tasked with resubnetting a given subnet to create 32 subnets, each accommodating 6 hosts. It details the approach taken, including assumptions about the base network, subnet calculations, and the creation of an IP address table. The final output includes a structured table listing each subnet, its valid IP address range, broadcast address, and subnet mask.

ASSIGNMENT.
Scenario
You are required to resubnet subnet 2 to have 32 subnets each with 6 hosts.
Document this in an IP address table
Approach.
[Link]
 Since subnet 2 is not given, we must assume a base network
 Assume an IP address of [Link] (class B default)
 Create first level subnets [Link]/19
 Borrowed bits (19-16) = 3 bits
 Number of subnets : 23 = 8 subnets
 Block size in 3rd octate (256- 224) = 32

Subnet No. subnet

1 [Link]
2 [Link]

Therefore, the subnet 2 is [Link]/19

RESUBNETING SUBNET 2
[Link] requirements i.e. number of subnets and hosts
Number of hosts = 6
with 32 subnet
[Link] the formulae 2N for subnets where N is the number of host bits
borrowed for subnets and 2H-2 where N is the number of host bits
2N ≥ 32 = 25 subnets
2H -2 = 6
2H = 23
[Link] the subnet mast from dotted decimal notations to binary notation and
borrow bits from left to the right and fulfill the requirements.
since IP is [Link]
Subnet mask: [Link]
Binary notation: 11111111.11111111.11100000.00000000
[Link] the new subnet mask from binary notation to decimal notation.
128 + 64+ 32+16+8
248
Therefore the new subnet mask is 255.255.248
[Link] the range between subnets by subtracting the values of the first octate
for new subnet mask from the magic number.
256 – 248 = 8
Therefore eight is range of the IP addresses
