Windows 10 PC - Basic Configuration Guide
1. Password Security Settings
• Open Run (Win + R) and type [Link]
• Navigate to Security Settings → Account Policies → Password Policy
• Open 'Password must meet complexity requirements'
• Set to Disabled and click Apply → OK
2. Force Classic Logon & Security Model
• Open [Link]
• Go to Security Settings → Local Policies → Security Options
• Enable 'Interactive logon: Do not display last user name'
• Disable 'Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL'
• Set 'Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts' to Classic
3. Crash Dump File Settings
• Control Panel → System → Advanced system settings
• Under Startup and Recovery click Settings
• Set Write debugging information to Automatic memory dump
• Enable Restart automatically
4. Turn Off User Account Control (Temporary)
• Control Panel → User Accounts
• Click Change User Account Control settings
• Move slider to Never notify
• Restart the PC
5. Disable Fast User Switching
• Open [Link]
• Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Logon
• Enable 'Hide entry points for Fast User Switching'
6. Disable AutoPlay & AutoRun
• Open [Link]
• Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → AutoPlay
Policies
• Enable 'Turn off AutoPlay' → Select All Drives
• Enable 'Default behavior for AutoRun' → Do not execute any autorun commands
7. Disable Firewall, Defender & Windows Update (Testing Only)
• Control Panel → Windows Defender Firewall → Turn off for all networks
• [Link] → Windows Components → Microsoft Defender Antivirus → Turn off policies
• [Link] → Windows Components → Windows Update → Disable Configure Automatic
Updates
8. Disable Screen Saver Policy
• [Link] → User Configuration → Administrative Templates → Control Panel →
Personalization
• Disable 'Enable screen saver' policy
9. Set Power Options
• Control Panel → Power Options → Select High Performance
• Turn off display after 20 minutes
• Set Sleep to Never
• Adjust advanced power settings as required
