Solving environmental problems should be the responsibility of one international

organization rather than each national government. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that an international organization should be responsible for tackling
all the environmental issues. However, in this essay, I will challenge this school of thought.

Admittedly, establishing a global organization for environmental protection has some


benefits. This is based on the assumption that this imaginary organization could help solve
many problems that are currently received inadequate resources in some countries. For
example, Bangladesh’s government has to allocate most of their funds for tackling more
imperative issues such as poverty, hunger and diseases, leading to lack of funding for
waste management and purifying contaminated water. With the presence of one
international organization which potentially has substantial resources contributed from
many countries around the world, these unsolved environmental issues could be addressed
more effectively.

However, the drawbacks that come with the advent of depending on a global organization
for environmental preservation are more significant. This is because many environmental
issues are localized and require immediate actions from local authorities rather than
waiting for one big organization. Take, for example, in Vietnam, there have been many
cases of local manufactures that had released a huge volume of pollutants to the river,
severely contaminating the natural water resources in these regions, before being reported
by the locals. This means that even in the small areas, effectively and at a timely manner
managing all the harmful threats to the environment are challenging, let alone giving the
full responsibility for one organization that has to address countless simultaneously causes
across the globe.
In conclusion, while having one global organization could be beneficial for environmental
conservation in some nations, the disadvantage of this action is greater. A better solution
for environmental preservation could be the combination of international community and
each country’s effort.
