OPTIMIZATION GUIDE
OVERVIEW
Given below is an Optimization Guide created to stop power limit throttling,
thermal throttling and provide some better settings for the Windows operating
system. It will help you achieve lower temperatures and consistent FPS. Lower
temperatures will help you game for extended periods of time without any decrease
of CPU or GPU clock speed. The logic behind having consistent clock speeds and
consistent FPS is that If you are going to run a race, you need to run fast so that you
can win. However, if you are running in a marathon, you need to have a constant
speed so that you can win. While gaming, it is not a race. It is a marathon. You will
game for extended periods of time and you need to make sure that your PC does not
decrease its speed as it runs.
Alright, first of all. Safety. It is very easy to restore your system in case you are
unable to follow the steps correctly regarding the undervolting section and it causes
crashes or you get stuck in a boot loop. All the optimizations given under the
‘windows optimization section’ are 100% safe and cannot break your laptop no
matter how hard you try. The optimizations given in the ‘undervolting’ section can
cause BIOS crashes if it is unstable. However, a simple restart should effectively do
away with all issues. In a rare case of you being stuck in a boot loop, you can use
system restore.
To create a system restore point (not required for windows optimizations, only for
undervolting) follow the steps below:
1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Create a restore point, and select it from
the list of results.
2) On the System Protection tab in System Properties, select Create.

3) Type a description for the restore point, and then select Create > OK.
There you have it. You are now ready to optimize your PC.
Note: Any Issues with windows or registry can be fixed by running in Command
prompt with administrator access sfc /scannow.

6) Check every option in Disk Cleanup and press ok.
7) It will take a lot of time but will clean up your c drive. This will provide you
more space. This has to be done on a regular basis so that your c drive does
not become full.
C) Defragmenting and Optimizing Drives
What this does: Helps you in opening files faster.
1) Search for ‘Defragment and Optimize Drives’ in the Search Box on the Task
bar and open it.

2) Manually select and optimize each drive. This has to be done regularly to keep
your computer at its optimal condition.
D) Increasing the Virtual Memory
What this does: Uses storage as RAM if you do not have enough of it for the
required task. Removing it from the C drive provides more space to it. Only
needed if you have about 4 GB or less of RAM.
1) Search for ‘Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows’ in the
Search Box on the Task bar and open it.
2) Open the ‘Advanced Tab’.
Last Updated: 26th May 2021

3) Click on the ‘Change’ button under Virtual Memory.
4) Uncheck ‘Automatically managing paging file size for all drives’.
5) Click on c drive and change it from System Managed size to No paging file.
6) Click on your secondary drive and set the Custom size. Put the Initial size 1.5
times of your RAM and Maximum size 3 times of your RAM. For example, I
have 16 GB RAM (16384 MB). My initial size is 16384x1.5 = 24576 MB and my
Maximum size is 16384x3 = 49152 MB. Remember that 1 GB worth of RAM has
1024 MB, so calculate your MB and set it accordingly.
7) Press OK.
Note: Do not attempt to change any values unless you have multiple drives.
Let system manage the files if you have more than 4 GB of RAM.

4) Check both the ‘Start ISLC minimized and auto Start monitoring’ and ‘Launch
ISLC on user logon. (Task Scheduler)’. This will make sure that you don’t need
to start ISLC at startup.
5) Check Enable custom timer resolution and enter 0.5 as the value.
6) Change the polling rate to 2000 if your pc is very good. 1000 if it is decent.
This will affect the CPU.
7) Press the start button and minimize the software.
Note: Enabling Low Latency Mode in Nvidia settings also helps lower input lag.
Type the command “LODCTR /R” twice in the command prompt with
administrator access to make sure that it is functioning.
Type the commands “bcdedit /set useplatformtick yes” and “bcdedit /set
disabledynamictick yes” in the command prompt with administrator access.
bcdedit /set useplatformtick yes and bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes; the
first one makes the timer resolution go from 0.9996 ms to 1.0 ms and if you
set it to 0.4992 with TimerTool, then it becomes 0.5 ms, the second one is
apparently a "laptop power saving feature".

OPTIMIZATION GUIDE
ADVANCED OPTIMIZATIONS (RISKY)
Alright then, now onto the major part and the magic. Undervolting. Undervolting
means basically reducing the voltage to your CPU/GPU. Now this part right here is a
bit complicated and requires a lot of patience. I required over 72 hours constantly to
find the correct values and it reduced my temperatures from 90 C at 3.2 GHz to 85 C
at 3.5 GHz with no thermal or power limit throttling. Remember to create a system
restore point.
A) GPU Undervolting (MSI Afterburner)
This is easier than CPU undervolting or at least I think so. Anyways, you need 2
softwares for undervolting your GPU i.e MSI Afterburner and Heaven Benchmark for
making sure that the GPU is stable.
Links: [Link]
[Link]
1) Find the specifications of your GPU. Specifically the ‘Boost Clock Speed’. For
example, this website tells me that my GPU has a boost clock speed of 1480 and that
is about the value that I’ll need.
2) Open MSI Afterburner and press Control + F to open the voltage frequency curve.
Last Updated: 26th May 2021
BEAST BROTHERHOOD
OPTIMIZATION GUIDE
3) Now press the first node (point on the extreme left) and shift and left click drag all
the way to the right extreme. Now, everything should be selected.
4) Press Shift Enter and you should be able to edit the value of the first node. Enter
the value 15 below whatever your GPU Boost Clock Speed is. For example, my GPU
Boost Clock Speed is 1480, so I’ll enter 1455.
5) Click the Check mark button/apply and your graph should become something of a
straight line. If it didn’t straighten it, then have any worries, click the extreme left
node again and repeat the process. Then apply. Do it a few times and your graph
should become straight.
Last Updated: 26th May 2021
BEAST BROTHERHOOD
OPTIMIZATION GUIDE
6) Now you’re done with undervolting. Go to the Benchmark, put Quality at Extreme
and Tessellation at High and run a benchmark. Monitor your GPU clock speed and
make sure it does not decrease. You want a stable clock speed. You may try to
increase it but try not to go over the prescribed Boost Clock Speed or it will generate
more heat.
7) You can also increase your memory clock speed in increments of 25 until your
system crashes. Do not worry though, it will restart on its own and reset the changes.
Try doing so until you can find a value on which your GPU is stable. Also go to
settings and Enable MSI Afterburner at Startup minimised so that you do not need to
open it every time you boot up.

B) CPU Undervolting (Throttlestop)
CPU undervolting will give you the maximum temperature difference and obviously is
also the more complex one. You will need Throttlestop for this.
Link: [Link]
1) Download and run Throttlestop. If Throttlestop is not compatible with your CPU,
then nothing can be done.
2) Enable Clock Mod, Speed Shift -EPP (Set it at 0, by default it is 128) and disable
BD PROCHOT. I have also disabled C1E which is the power saving feature but that is
optional, I recommend having it on . Also turn on Throttlestop.
Last Updated: 26th May 2021
BEAST BROTHERHOOD
OPTIMIZATION GUIDE
3) Click on Options and set AC Timer Res at 0. Check what kind of GPU you have
(AMD / Nvidia), check start minimised, minimise on close, check PROCHOT Offset
and put the value at 0.
4) Open FIVR settings and then see if you are able to unlock the voltage. If you are
unable to unlock the Adjustable Voltage this means that it is locked. This can be
bypassed by going into the BIOS and restoring it into the default Factory settings.
This worked for me (Dell G7 7588) since my new BIOS version locked the voltages.
Last Updated: 26th May 2021
BEAST BROTHERHOOD
OPTIMIZATION GUIDE
5) You only need to focus on undervolting CPU Core & CPU Cache (Since they provide
the main difference) but I have undervolted Intel GPU and iGPU Unslice as well.
6) Undervolt by changing the Offset Voltage in increments of 25 until your system
crashes. Then, find the most stable voltage. Keep all the values same for stability.
7) Check the ‘Disable and Lock Turbo Power Limits and try reducing the Cache Ratio.
It has helped me in reducing the temperatures. Press OK - Save voltages immediately
and keep testing.
8) Not everyone has the best cooling system, so try downclocking for lower
temperatures. You should be able to find plenty of undervolting guides for your
specific CPU on youtube or threads regarding it. Even though my clock speed at
maximum can run at 3.9 GHz, I have it underclocked (by changing those values to 35

- 3.5 GHz) to provide constant and consistent FPS, which is our aim. Anyone can play
with 120 FPS for 10 minutes, but playing with 90 FPS for 7 hours+ is difficult since
the system starts to heat up and downclocks CPU & GPU.
9) Go to TPL settings and uncheck Short Power PL2. Then, try reducing the Long
Power PL1 in small increments until throttlestop shows that it is power limit throttling.
Get the perfect amount for optimal heat generation. No other settings need to be
changed.
Last Updated: 26th May 2021
BEAST BROTHERHOOD
OPTIMIZATION GUIDE
10) When you have found the optimal undervolt and Long Power PL1, then run TS
Bench.
If it crashes, then your undervolt is too much. Try reducing it by 5.
If it shows error, then your undervolt is too much. Try reducing it by 5.
If it shows Power Limit throttling, then your Power Limit PL1 is too low. Try increasing
it by 4/5 and try again.
Once you have found the perfect combination, your system should run a hell lot
cooler now and you should get constant FPS no matter how long you play for instead
of having more FPS for the first 15 minutes.

D) MSI Mode Utility
This software is used to reduce latency. It is a must to create a system restore point
in case something goes wrong and you need to reset. This is the only thing which has
the potential to break your os (resulting in need of total formatting). So be careful if
you are using this.
Link:[Link]
1) Extract and run MSI_util_v3 as an administrator.
2) Check MSI mode for all the drivers which have a negative value.
3) Check MSI mode and set to High Interrupt Priority for
a) Your graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design & Intel (R) UHD
Graphics 630 here)
b) Your Ethernet /internet driver (Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet Controller here)
c) Your USB Chipset (Intel (R) Chipset SATA/PCIe Premium Controller
d) Your USB Driver (Intel (R) USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.10 (Microsoft)
4) Click Apply.
5) Restart your computer and enjoy the low input latency. Run a benchmark to see if
it is causing any issues.
6) Restore to the last system point if it is causing any issues and try reducing what
you chose to see which one is causing instability.
