● Habits of Mind: Which of the 10 Habits of Mind have you focused on
developing? How has one helped you face a challenge or improve your success?
Habits of mind have been quite beneficial to me, particularly when it comes to
maintaining organization. When I do assignments or maintain organization for my major,
I stick to a routine. Cooking sweets is much easier when I have a clean workspace and
keep all of my supplies in order. I always know where my schoolwork is since my
backpack is also well-organized. I had trouble with this in high school and frequently
placed my completed assignments in the incorrect folder, making them difficult to locate
later.
● Steps to College Success: Which step—active involvement, interpersonal
interaction, campus resources, or self-reflection—has had the biggest impact so
far? Why? Are you checking your Surge email regularly?
Looking back, I wish I had started using campus resources earlier. Lately, I've been
making the most of them. For example, I now book study rooms on Thursdays after
class to get ready for tests. Sometimes I study with friends, and other times I go solo.
Since I started this routine, my exam scores have gone up. I also spend time at the
library to study, print things, or just relax with a good book. Reading really helps me
unwind. I also check my school email every day since it's linked to my phone.

● Time Management: How are you managing your time this semester? What
strategies are helping—and what will you do differently moving forward? Are you
checking your Surge email regularly?
I'm still trying to improve my time management. Sometimes I get extra assignments on
Wednesdays, but most of the time I finish my homework on Sundays. I don't look
forward to it because I usually put it off until the weekend. From now on, I want to start
working on my nutrition class assignments as soon as they are posted on Wednesdays.
My goal is to finish everything early so I can relax on the weekend without stressing
about unfinished work. I'll try doing my homework at school and at home to see which
works better for me.
● Habits and Goals: Describe one short-term academic goal you’ve set and the
habit that supports it. How do you track your progress, and what have you
learned?
I made a short-term goal earlier in the semester to take control of my academic
performance by attending all of my classes, asking questions, and not worrying about
minor issues. I'm still working on this, particularly with regard to asking for assistance in
my lab. Although the professor encourages us to ask questions, there are moments
when I worry that I might miss something she shows us. I keep track of my progress by
writing notes on my recipe sheets whenever I have a question. This helps me remember
any changes or anything my lecturer did differently for me.
