Basic Computing – Study Notes

1. What is Computing?
Computing is the use of computers to process data, store information, and solve problems.

2. Main Parts of a Computer


- Hardware: Physical parts like keyboard, mouse, CPU.
- Software: Programs like Windows, Word, browsers.

3. Input and Output Devices


Input: Keyboard, mouse, scanner.
Output: Monitor, printer, speaker.

4. CPU (Central Processing Unit)


The brain of the computer. It processes instructions.

5. Memory
- RAM: Temporary memory.
- ROM: Permanent memory.
- Storage: Hard disk, SSD, USB.

6. Operating System
Controls computer hardware and software (Windows, Linux).

7. Networking Basics
Connecting computers to share data. Example: LAN, Internet.

8. Safety and Maintenance


Use antivirus, proper shutdown, avoid dust and water.
