Tutorial SHMC Set 01a Appendix

The document provides a detailed analysis of simply supported beams under concentrated loads and uniformly distributed loads (UDL), including equations for deflection, slopes, and integration constants. It outlines the conditions necessary for continuity and boundary conditions to solve for constants of integration. Additionally, it presents stiffness and mass matrices relevant to structural health monitoring and control.

• Constants of integration.

• The four constants of integration can be found from the following four conditions:

(1) At x=a, the slopes v’ for the two parts of the beam are same.

(2) At x=a, the deflections v for the two parts of the beam are same.

(3) At x=0, the deflection is zero.

(4) At x=L, the deflection is zero.

• The first two conditions are continuity conditions based upon the fact that the axis
of the beam is a continuous curve. Conditions (3) and (4) are boundary conditions
that must be statisfied at the supports.

(1) At x=a, the slopes v’ for the two parts of the beam are same.

• Condtion (1) means that the slopes determined from the equations of two parts
must be equal when x=a

(2) At x=a, the deflections v for the two parts of the beam are same.

be equal when x=a

(3) At x=0, the deflection is zero.

• Condition(3) is applied to the equation of the first part of the beam and obtain
